REVO 3 - Review

Jolon Williams Camp Presents ...

Fedor Belfort versus Mat Silva

The sold out arena at REVO - 3 opened it's doors with the middleweight bout featuring the James Dean's stable's very own Fedor Belfort, taking on Mat Silva. Silva would wind up proving previously rumoured sources correct as he entered the cage, already looking exhausted and demoralised. Unfortunately for him, this is simply no way to enter a professional fight. Belfort would take advantage and launch an early assault, and this was all that was required to finish the already battered Polish native. With not even thirty seconds having gone on the clock, the opening bout finished quicker than the time it took for the bout to even start, as Belfort would catch Silva with a massive right hook which would send him crumbling into a defeated heap. Following the bout, sources report that Silva has been released from his contract due to the unprofessional display.*

Owner Grading

Fedor Belfort - A

Nothing to fault here at all. Belfort saw his opponent as already a few blows away from defeat, and aggressively took advantage of the fact. In this business, you take what is given to you, and in Belfort's case, it was upon a silver platter that he grabbed this victory. With no fatigue whatsoever, he will no doubt be looking to start training up again immediately for his next opponent, as we have plans for him to show himself once again at our monthly Camp Wars!

Mat SIlva - F

Highly disappointed in this young man. I expect more professional behaviour from my fighters, and whatever his story is, it is simply unacceptable to arrive at a fight in such a condition. I can't imagine the fans were any more pleased than I was at his showing.

*(Manager inactivity, in actuality. But let Silva's defeat be your lesson! Always arrive on time to fights, fully energised and with plenty of morale. Booking fights in advance rather than waiting for the auto-flight to engage will greatly increase your chances of a victory, or at least a more competent outing.)

Jack Balls versus Mario Eikmeyer

With the first fight having ended so abruptly, the second fight of the night was soon at hand. The two heavyweights, Jack Balls and Mario Eikmeyer were both eager for a victory, one suffering a three fight losing streak, whilst the other having suffered a demoralising debut defeat. While the first fight ended rather abruptly, the clash between these two titans would wind up going the distance, with both men eager to assert their dominance with each their respective strengths. In the end, however, it was Balls who would emerge victorious, with a strong display both on the striking front as well as the grappling front, defeating a somewhat strategically predictable Eikmeyer.

Owner Grading

Jack Balls - B-

A strong, balanced showing from Balls. He seemed a little indecisive in regards as to where he seemed to want the fight to take place, and may have wasted some energy in such a regard, if his third round was anything to go by, however, at the end of the day, the strategy was enough to throw Eikmeyer off of his game, long enough for him to pull out the victory.

Mario Eikmeyer - D-

Weak showing from Eikmeyer. Entirely too predictable, he did nothing but aggressively seek takedowns, and this left him wide open and vulnerable for Balls to choose his shots. He managed to notch an early takedown in the third, and once there, his ground prowess was unmistakable ... but he needs to work on his game plan a lot more when on his feet if he wants to succeed. The fight doesn't start on the mat, it starts with both men standing, and he needs to be a lot smarter than just repeating the same attempts over and over again if he wants to outsmart his opponent.

Seano Mac versus Daniel Kowalski

The third fight from the Williams' camp featured lightweights Seano Mac and Daniel Kowalski. Upon signing with REVO, Mac quickly declared that he was looking to dominate in REVO, and his rough treatment of Kowalski was definitely a step in the right direction. Kowalski was hapless before Mac's mat prowess, and despite all attempts otherwise, he found himself submitted in the first round with nary a counter attack launched. Despite being the

Seano Mac - B+

The key to a fight is not always working to your own strengths, but rather, working at your opponent's weaknesses. Mac knew this entering the fight, and executed his gameplan to near perfection. Other than an oddly indecisive moment in the middle of the first round, where he stood up of his own accord and allowed Kowalski to do the same and catch his breath, Mac's display was excellent. Luckily, he quickly managed to get that second takedown again after that, and Kowalski was finished. If he hadn't managed to do that, the fight might have ended differently, but a 'what if' doesn't really show up on the scorecards, does it?

Daniel Kowalski - D

Can't really grade him really, as I didn't see a single thing from him. He was hapless on the ground, and not given a chance to work his magic on his feet. Kowalski was simply out-strategised tonight, nothing more can be said about it. Hopefully he can recoup, and bring his A-game to the next fight he participates in.

Jason Sekyere versus Lucas Dias

It appears that Sekyere simply refuses to learn from his mistakes, as the previously 0-2 winless fighter succumbed to yet another submission loss, making him 0-3, in the fourth Williams' camp bout of the night. Despite having faced Dias before, knowing what he is capable of on the mat, and also despite having the clear striking advantage, Sekyere wasted no time in taking this fight to the ground. In fact, Dias threw the only strike of the evening, before he gladly adjourned with Sekyere, down into the grappling game in which he is so proficient. Sekyere managed to throw a few ground and pounding strikes in, but Dias would soon gain a more favourable position whilst controlling Sekyere effectively, and before the fourth minute, he had cinched in a guillotine from which there was no escape, coming out with the submission victory, his second against Sekyere.

Owner Grading

Jason Sekyere - F-

Sekyere gets my lowest grading to date, Don't know what he was thinking, absolute shambles of a gameplan. Superior on the feet, with more than enough wrestling experience to keep it there, and yet he takes it right down to where Dias has the clear advantage. This is what I was talking about when I said that MMA is more than playing to your own strengths, it's about taking advantage of your opponent's weaknesses. I don't care if his wrestling proficiency means he's more comfortable grounding and pounding his opponents out, he hasn't managed to get a win out of it thus far, and he won't ever if he keeps doing it to brown belt BJJ artists.

Lucas Dias - C

He got this win handed to him on a silver platter here, frankly. He didn't get the win by himself, it was a team effort by both competitors, so I can't really afford him a higher grading than that. As soon as this fight hit the mat, everyone knew what was going to happen, it's just that nobody expected Sekyere to be the one to initiate the mat game. Plus, I think I saw him actually trying to stand up on several occasions, which boggles my mind as well if this were true. Some of these fighters need some help strategising from their managers. Hell, if they want, I'll even help them!

Eyelove Fucked-Up versus Arnold Drummond

The Williams' camp main event saw two veterans take the cage in a clash of contrasting styles, however, at least in this case, Drummond's signature Muay Thai striking proved utterly and completely dominant over Eyelove's preferred grappling techniques. As the gong sounded, indicated the start of the fight, Eyelove quickly found himself buried in a flurry of fists, strike after strike getting the better of him until he succumbed a little before the third minute. Eyelove did have a couple of opportunities for a counter attack, and did, at one point, attempt to take the fight to the mat, no doubt so he could catch a momentary breather, but Drummond would prove too resistant to his attempts, and Eyelove found no reprieve. Unfortunately for him, after this bout, there is simply no denying who was the superior fighter.

Owner Grading

Eyelove Fucked-Up - D

Damn, another first round finish? That's four out of five fights, isn't it? I guess that's a good thing, finishes are exciting and all, shows good grit from the fighters too. Shame for Eyelove though, he just couldn't get a word in on this fight. Drummond was just too much for him. Not really much more to say. Better luck next time.

Arnold Drummond - A

Class showing from an elite striker, Drummond showed his experience in the cage tonight. He keeps up showings like that, it's not going to be long before he's amongst the elite of the division, if he isn't already. That fight was a definite message to the rest of the roster. Looking forward to his next fight, just need to pick him an opponent ... maybe an equal striker, who wouldn't love to see an absolute strikefest?
