HMMA 94 Preview

Event Preview: HMMA 94 JPB v Gray
HEROIC
2013-07-14, London, Wombley Arena
Author:

Hello everyone its me again “Sunshine” Weston Markson along with my partna Rudy “The Box” Knife.  Rudy we have a fantastic event Sunday HMMA 94 which follows what turned out to be a super event Saturday.  This event takes place in London’s wombley arena where over 12000 fans are expected to turn up to watch the action, and thousands more on PPV worldwide.

Rudy:  That’s right Weston, Sunday is going to be a big night the card is headlined by two fantastic middleweight fighters battling for the HMMA middleweight title.  We also have a huge heavyweight fight in the co-main event a fight that could potentially shift the rankings around a little.  Most of the fights on the main card of this event could be main events on other shows so you know this is going to be great.

MAIN EVENT

#1/C "The Sterilizer" Jean Pierre Babin (18-4) v #2  Mr ” The Gay” Gray (22-11-2)                 185 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 94 is going to be a fight to remember, a middleweight title fight between the champion Jean Pierre Babin and the divisions #1 contender Mr Gray.   Babin is undefeated since joining HMMA a perfect 5-0 and shows no signs of slowing down.  HMMA brass said this could be a fight where if Babin wins a possible induction into the ranks of the Heroic could occur.  One thing is for sure the middleweight division hasn’t seen a champ like this since Sparbot, With a victory Babin will make noise as HMMA’s greatest MW of all time, but standing in his way is another middleweight riding a 5 fight win streak.  After Mr. Gray dropped his first HMMA fight he found his way and hasn’t lost since.  On his way he has taken out former champions, and #1 contenders, in his last fight he was able to gain a shot at the title by submitting Mikal Helio.  Which one of these two fighters on a five fight win streak will prevail?

Rudy:  You know Weston these two are almost perfectly matched, this is a very close fight on paper.  Babin is one of the best strikers HMMA has seen, he mixes everything up well keeps his opponents guessing at what may be coming next and then usually finds an opening.  To go along with it he has spectacular power 16 out of his 18 wins have been by (T)KO.   Expect JPB to do what he always does come out keep the fight standing pick his opponent apart until he overwhelms them with strikes forcing a stoppage, the question in this fight will be if Gray can hold on long enough standing to get the fight to the ground.  Gray has an elite ground game, with both world class wrestling, and bjj if he can get the fight on the ground he has an advantage that could see him come out on top, Gray also posses a good striking game but his best chance at winning is getting the fight to the ground and workings some GNP/submissions.

Prediction:  Until the champion losses ill pick him, BUT I think Gray has a more then good chance at winning.

CO-MAIN EVENT

#6 Igor "Rat-a-tat"Tatov  (27-15) v #8 Gun Slinga (14-7)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT of the evening is a heavyweight collision between two ranked heavyweights looking to find a home inside the top 5 and move closer to title contention.   This is a fight between rising stars in the division both of these guys have been stellar since stepping foot in HMMA Tatov is 4-1 with his only loss coming to recent title challenger Freeman Blackford.  Gun Slinga is 5-2 with his two losses coming at the hands of the former champion and current #1 contender.   These two fighters are on the rise and want to prove when they get back into title contention they can take the next step it all starts here for whoever wins this one.

Rudy:  BOOM! That’s what you will hear when this fight ends someone is getting KTFO in this one.  Tatov might be the more versatile fighter in this fight having shown he can stand and exchange with anyone but also find the right time to ground his opponents and work them over on the ground.   Gun Slinga hasn’t shown as much ability on the ground and has never attempted a takedown, he does however stuff nearly 90% of takedown attempts allowing him to strike with near no worries of takedowns.  The thing about this fight is we have two guys who know how to finish fights, Tatov has won his last 3 fights by cut, and has 19 wins by (T)KO, Slinga has all but two of his 14 wins by (T)KO he has the kind of power that comes along rarely.  Whats even more interesting about this fight is neither guy has shown to have a great chin or maybe its just that they are heavyweights and chin doesn’t matter much but either way im positive this fight ends in (T)KO the question is which one lands first?

Prediction:  I predict a bloody battle that ends in TKO for someone.

MAIN CARD

Weston:  Rudy the main card on Sunday’s event is looking spectacular.  Every fight on this card has at least one ranked fighter in the fight, I think I am most excited to see how the two newcomers in the welterweight division do, will they step right in and have a big impact or find the life in HMMA a little harder and have to work their way back up to the top?  Johnny LaRusso is one of the debutants against Don Key who recently debuts himself as the #1 contender.  This one is going to be good and could do a lot in determining a future challenger, Id say both are a max 2-3 wins away from a shot at the title.

The other fight that has a debut fighter in it on the main card is the Hakeem “Crazy Horse” Berzavaco vs Jay Hunter fight, “Crazy Horse” has won titles in 3 different organizations, his career is long and storied but his crowning achievement to really set in stone his career could be one day winning the HMMA title.  The debut of “Crazy Horse” is going to be huge everyone has been buzzing about this fight on twitter and his potential impact in the division, the guy he is fighting is no joke either and comes into this fight 10th ranked after losing his debut fight in a close decision to the newly crowned welterweight champion, we could see a fight here that propels the winner into contention and gives them the start they need to become a contender/champion down the road.  I love this fight its going to be great and I think both of these fighters have the skill to one day where the HMMA welterweight title.

What do you think Rudy:

Rudy:  Well Weston I think you are right and those are going to be some good fights but I really like the fight between 6th ranked welterweight and HMMA veteran Timo Yo and Jack Infamous.  Infamous has an amazing ground game and some of the most brutal GNP we have seen 16 wins have come this way for him TImo has really good standup skills and also some great power 13 of his wins have been by (T)KO these two combine for a finishing rate near 90% that’s absolutely insane and makes you really think one of these two will be finished, maybe I will shout from cage side FINISH HIM!

The other fight im really loving his the Joe Davis v Frank Reynolds fight, now everyone knows im a former kickboxing world champion, a former golden gloves champion, and one of the best strikers in the history of this planet earth.  (*in the background Weston chuckles*) This is why I am really liking the lightweight fight I think these two are going to stand toe2toe in the cage and swing for the fences, although I think eventually Davis will take the fight the to the ground but for a while this fight is going to be right up my alley and then up Weston’s.

#8 "The Cobra Kid" Johnny LaRusso (17-11) v  #4 "Donkey Style AKA Badonk-a Don Key (24-5-2)

"Lost" Jack Infamous (18-15) v#6  "Timothy Of The Night" Timo Yo (16-8)

Joe Davis (24-15-1) v #7 Frank “Fast Hands” Reynolds (15-4-2)

Hakeem "Crazy Horse" Berzevaco (21-10)  v #10 Jay Hunter (17-9)
