Lightning Fight League - Part 3

Lightning Fight League, Fight Organization, New York
Company profile by Chris Dewing

Welcome back to LFL Episode 3: Revenge of the Runaway Managers. There's been a lot of development in the LFL since my last entry, most notably our first show which ran on Saturday, but I'll get into details of that later. Firstly I would like to publicly thank manager and fight org owner Allen Wayne for donating some money to the LFL cause, his contribution allowed me some extra money for signing bonuses which in turn gave me the chance to bring in some bigger names to the LFL roster. I can't thank Allen enough for his generosity and me promoting his org Battle Royale FC in Tokyo seems rather meaningless in comparison.

There have been some positive steps in bringing in new fighters thanks to that extra money, bigger signing bonuses have meant that managers are a bit more willing to let their fighters join a rookie promotion and two very well hyped Welterweighs called Jesse James and Rick Rich have been brought in to headline our second event for the Welterweight title. Their hype and popularity completely out-does the level we had for the first show, I just hope it's enough to balance out the extra money that the show is going to cost to have them on the card. I've brought in a few more 0-0 fighters, I find myself checking through the new fighters list on a nightly basis at the moment in the hope that if I offer a contract before anyone else I'm more likely to get more fighters on board.

LFL 1 ran on Saturday and it would be difficult to call it anything other than a success. Despite a mis-understanding of the Event Helper guide causing me to only sell 154 tickets (at $150 each though) I was able to make a profit of over $10,000 after all was done. The first five matches on the card all scored 100% fight ratings as did two other fights later on giving us an impressive debut Event Rating of 46.57, plus there were victories for many fighters who look like they might be able to get a decent run of wins going. We even had some money to give some bonuses out, fight of the night went to the co-Main Event of Kova Naama vs. Dalip Rana whilst KO of the Night went to the Main Event winner CM Brooks.

Of course with any show there are problems beyond my control, in this instance it was a fighter not making weight causing their fight to be cancelled. The fighter in question belongs to a manager who seems to have disappeared from the game and left his fighters to rot. This sort of thing is expected but always remains very annoying, however it's not quite as frustrating as the manager who signed his contracts and then released both of his fighters. Two 0-2 Free Agents aren't exactly what I need when I'm trying to put together a second card.

Putting together the second card has also become a problem due to manager inactivity. Whenever I see that little stopwatch symbol next to about a third of my fighters I always feel a sense of helplessness, Ive offered them fights on the off chance that they come back but a part of me knows that it's probably not going to happen. It's the most unavoidable yet stressful part of the game, it's understandable that people are going to play for a little bit but then stop but it certainly makes life as an org owner very difficult. I've decided to throw three title matches on to the second card (fight acceptance permitting) to try and get some champions as quickly as possible, whilst there's only a tiny bit of extra hype for a title match anything is worth doing to get some hype behind the promotion. I've even booked a 750 seat arena, nearly double the last one, so there won't be any $150 tickets this time!

Thanks for reading and I hope you're enjoying my "blogs" of how the org is developing. As ever if you have a spare fighter in the New York region looking for a contract then feel free to contact me, there's always bonuses on offer for anyone who signs as a result of reading these articles!
