HMMA 75 preview

Event Preview: HMMA 75 Champs Challenge
HEROIC
2013-04-13, London, Camden Conference Centre
Author:

Hello everyone as you all know by now I am “Sunshine” Weston Markson joined by my co host Rudy “The Box” Knife, and we are here to bring to you HMMA 75 the Champions Challenge preview.  Once again HMMA has a weekend of amazing fights, all five titles will be on the line, four of them on HMMA 75 Saturday in the Camden Conference Center.

Rudy:  You said it Weston, all champions defend their titles this weekend that’s enough to make me cream my panties.  I cant wait for all of these fights this could be the biggest card HMMA has put on, and its sure to bring about the biggest and upcoming starts in the world of MMA.   Lets kick off this amazing weekend with four of the hottest title fights HMMA has yet to see.

MAIN EVENT

1st Fedor "Cannon" Vladimirov (13-3) v 2nd "The Half Naked Man!" Mr Stigu (24-16)   265 lbs title

Weston:  The main event of HMMA 75 brings to us the heavyweight title fight between champion Fedor Vladimirov and the challenger Mr Stigu.  Stigu is no stranger to high profile fights and has fought for the HMMA heavyweight title before, but Coming up unsuccessful in his last attempt to capture the title, now Stigu wants one last shot at glory, one last run.  Should he win a new breath of air into his lungs and his first championship, a career that will continue on, but with a loss Stigu plans to hang up the gloves, and exchange hitting pads for holding them, a loss brings on retirement for the great Mr.  Stigu.   Vladimirov might be just starting his HMMA career but if his previous two fights have shown us anything its that the HMMA heavyweight division could have a long time champion in Vladimirov, that could one day even threaten the records of the greatest HMMA HW of all time French Toast.  Ending the  improbable reign of Julius Lawson and capturing the title in just his second HMMA fight Fedor now looks to defend his title for the first time and carve out his legacy as one of the greatest Hero’s HMMA has seen.

Rudy:  Weston what I love about this fight is that it could and will end at any moment, Fedor has never win or lose went the distance in a fight,  and in 40 fights Stigu has only went to decision 8 times evenly splitting wins and losses 4 a piece, Fedor has 13 (t)KO’s, and Stigu has 20!  I expect both men will look to take the center of the cage and swing for the fences.   Now these two warriors have met before outside of HMMA and in the first meeting Stigu proved to be a stiff test but ultimately fell victim of another (t)KO finish for Fedor.  Will Stigu get revenge and keep his  career alive or will Fedor start a reign that lands him Heroic status?

Prediction:     With the power these men possess either could win but I will take the champion to retain his title by (t)KO.

CO-MAIN EVENT

1st Fedor "Sambist" Alexandrov (17-5)  v  2nd "The Great" Nate Barnes (24-12)  205 lbs title

Weston:  The CO-MAIN EVENT of the evening is a Light-heavyweight title fight between challenger Nate Barnes and champion Fedor Alexandrov.   This fight is one of the most interesting Light-heavyweight fights in a long time because Nate Barnes has been asking for a title shot for a very long time, after being put through and knocking out all of  his competition he finally gets his opportunity and on one of the greatest stages yet!  Barnes comes into this fight on a five fight win streak having won all of his fights by (t)KO.  For Fedor we last saw him on the losing end of a hard fought close decision loss in a non title superfight.  It was his first loss in the division since joining HMMA previously Fedor had looked unbeatable at the weight class but could the superfight loss carry over into this fight?  For the champion he must hope not if he wants to retain and continue to build the legacy he has started.

Rudy:  What a great fight we have here, two of the most exciting fighters on the planet, everyone knows of Fedor’s popularity, he has for long been the most popular Light-Heavyweight fighter in the world of MMA, but Barnes holds quite a bit of fans as well,  Saturday in full force both men will have thousands cheering for them in the stands as they hope for victory.  This fight is a classic matchup between striker and grappler, it will be interesting to see if Fedor’s ground game trumps Barnes Striking attack or if Barnes will be to much for Fedor standing.  Some things to note are Fedor has still even after his last fight never won a decision so if the fight goes long Barnes could come out on top, on the flip side Fedor is so dangerous he has never not finished an opponent win he wins!  With 12 wins by (t)KO most of those by GNP stoppage, and 5 by submission if the fight hits the ground Barnes could be in a world of hurt.  Barnes has won 21 of his 24 victories by (t)KO, he has huge power and could put anyone to sleep in the blink of an eye.   Who prevails?

Prediction:  I will have to take the champion here by 2nd round GNP TKO

MAIN CARD

4th  Rocco "Monmount" Stupka (14-8) v 3rd  Julius "Lights Out" Lawson (24-12-1)

Weston:  The last fight on the main card a heavyweight fight between the former champion Julius Lawson and rising star Rocco Stupka.  Stupka comes into this fight undefeated in HMMA having won his last 5 fights against steadily increasing competition.  Stupka has really begun to make a name for himself and a win against the former champion could catapault him into #1 contender status.  Lawson could also possibly gain #1 contender status if he is able to defeat Stupka its within the realm of possibilities that he could once again find himself in line for a shot at the title that he once wore around his waist.

Rudy:  Some fighters have nicknames that don’t make much sense, that are just names, that have no bearing on their actual abilities inside the cage, but “Lights out”  is not one of those men, Lawson truly lives up to the moniker “Lights Out”  by winning 23 out of his 24 fights by (T)KO.  Lawson could possibly be the most powerful man in HMMA and maybe even all of MMA.  Its no secret what Lawson will attempt to accomplish in this fight, he will bring a standup battle two Rocco and look for the knockout.  Stupka is more well rounded then Lawson but has not been known to use his ground game as much unless he has felt like he will have a significant advantage on the ground, he may very well feel like that against Lawson but Stupka still tends to stand and bang with his opponents.  12 out of Stupka’s 14 wins have come by (T)KO,  so even if he looks to take the fight to the ground it might be just to wear down the former champ.

Prediction:  Hard fight to pick both have proven they are capable of winning fights when the underdog, ill go with Lawson by (T)KO.

1st "The Sterilizer" Jean Pierre Babin (16-4) v 2nd  "Firestarter" Calvin Duran  (15-3) 185 lbs title

Weston:  A middleweight title fight is the next fight on the card as Jean Pierre Babin looks to continue his meteoric rise in HMMA against Calvin Duran by defending his title for the second time.  So far for Babin he has been perfect in HMMA winning all three of his fights, against former champion and HoFer Sparbot, and two tough challenges to win and defend his title.  Here and now Babin looks to continue his run through the MW division by taking on a very tough HMMA newcomer Calvin Duran, can Babin continue his accent towards the Heroic status or will the debuting Duran put a stop to the quickly rising star.  Duran is not unfamiliar with big fights as he was held a title in another org the total title wins he had there is 12!  If anyone can come in right away and get a win over the champion this is most likely the man.  When Duran first came to HMMA it was thought he would get a warm up match first, but after management and Duran had a talk they decided to do the unthinkable and start his HMMA career off with a shot against the champion, a rare feat in this org.  Will Duran have what it takes and live up to the hype by defeating the champion?

Rudy:  This is my pick for FOTN, these two are so close to each other in skills that the tension is going to be absolutely nuts!  Both men are Elite in all striking skills, and both have well-rounded ground games.  I cant imagine either fighter taking this fight to the ground though unless its to cement a round won.  If Babin has an advantage it is that he seems to have a slightly better chin, and power, but time and time again Duran fought and beat the best.  This fight really could go either way quick!.

Prediction:  I think this one is so close it ends up being a decision for the winner I cant pick who wins though without a coin……the man with the most fearsome nickname in all of MMA "The Sterilizer" decision win.

8th Gun Slinga (12-6) v 5th Dick "The Zombie" Niaz (12-3)

Weston:  The next fight on the card is a heavyweight fight between 5th ranked Dick Niaz and 8th Ranked Gun Slinga.  Slinga’s last fight was a loss in a #1 contenders bout I know Slinga wanted a crack at the champion and a win here could put him back in line for an opportunity in the future.  Dick Niaz has on several occasions made his way to the top of the peak in the heavyweight division being only one win away from a title shot but coming up short, Niaz could be one of the most skilled HW’s in the division and eventually he will win the big one and get his shot at the champion, he hopes that all starts here, after all his only two losses in HMMA came against the former two time champion and HoFer French Toast, and the current champion.  That is a solid resume for contendership heading forwards.

Rudy:  Niaz is one of those guys who can win the fight anywhere it takes place, standing, clinch, ground, and if ne needs to grind out a close decision win he can do that as well.  Slinga although he can hold his own on the ground is not at the level of grappling prowess that Niaz has, he does however have a very good striking game and some startling power to go with it.  I would give him the advantage standing.   Expect this fight to be a war between two of the divisions hungriest fighters!

6th Igor "Rat-a-tat" Tatov (25-14)  v 7th  "All Heart, No Skill" Freeman Blackford (12-2-1)

Weston:  Speaking of hungry heavyweights Igor Tatov and Freeman Blackford are two guys who with a win could propel themselves to the front of the line in a race of contenders for a title shot.   In Blackford’s last fight and debut with HMMA he got dropped several times in the first round, in what would become one of the craziest displays of heart I have ever seen he came back in the fight and managed to pull out a decision win.  In doing so the awe of many shocked fans were won over by the display gaining Blackford a new legion of followers.  Blackford now has the chance to prove he has more then just heart when he steps into the cage to face Igor Tatov.  When Tatov came to HMMA he proclaimed “ I am going to be a huge star in HMMA”  two fights later his words are ringing louder then ever as he defeated two of the divisions best fighters on what could be his way towards super stardom and title shots.   Can Tatov continue to blaze a path towards the top, or will Freeman show he has more then just heart?

Rudy:  Well Weston this is going to be another huge fight these two men have all the skills to become champion sometime down the road.  Blackford’s display of heart is still fresh on my mind one thing is sor sure Tatov will have a hard time putting Freeman away.  Both of these fighters have shown they have the power to (t)KO their opposition, but Tatov may hold a very small advantage on the ground having won a few fights by submission.  It will be interesting to see if he makes use of this small advantage and takes the fight to the ground or decides to take his chances with Blackford standing.  Either way the winner here takes a huge step forwards, and the loser a small step back.

Prediction:   Its hard to pick against either fighter with Blackford’s heart he displayed in his last fight, and with Tatov having won against very good competition.  I am leaning towards Blackford by decision.

2nd "Peltosaaren Teurastaja"  Brutaali Keijo (14-10-1) v  1st Krwawy Lopez  (12-1) 170 lbs title

Weston:  The First fight coming of the prelims is a welterweight title fight between the champion Krwawy Lopez and challenger Brutaali Keijo.  Lopez is starting to make a name for himself as a dominant champion.   He still has  a long way to go before he out does the year+ reign of former champion John Saunders who has taken time away from fighting.   Lopez has only lost one fight and has won 6 straight and is starting to look like he may not only be the best welterweight in HMMA but possibly the best fighter.  He has shown an ability to pull out close fights time and time again which could come in useful in his second title defense against Brutaali Keijo.  Keijo has not fought an easy fight since coming to HMMA nor has the judges had an easy time picking the winner of his fights, now riding a two fight win streak he still looks for that decisive win and what a time It would be to get that win and bring home the championship with it.

Rudy:  For once Weston you are right it would be a great time for Keijo to pull out a KO/Sub which he has yet to do in HMMA.  He does have a knack for exciting highly controversial fights though but most would say the losses he had he was screwed and the wins by decision should have been more clear to the judges that he won.  Lopez also has a knack for tough grind it out fights as most of his wins have also come by decision one great thing about this as Wilson always says is…”At least the fans will get their money’s worth of their favorite fighter”  I can promise you all one thing this fight is going to be amazing.

Prediction:  Lopez pulls out a decision win.
