Lightning Fight League - Part 2

Lightning Fight League, Fight Organization, New York
Company profile by Chris Dewing

Welcome back to Part 2 of the Lightning Fight League story, and we start with the happy news that the first LFL show, creatively entitled "LFL 1" has had every fight confirmed. Special thanks go to manager Marlon Dean who kindly allowed some of his fighters to fight at short notice. With that show all ready to go on Saturday April 13th it becomes time for me to start working on a second card. If only it were that easy...

We now have 30 fighters on the roster, and basic maths will tell you that with 20 fighters already scheduled for the first show it means only ten fighters available for a second show. Bringing in new fighters is still an absolute nightmare, it's still the usual mix of fighters being created for training, managers that make fighters and don't stay in the game, and the fact that other fight orgs can afford to pay them more. To be honest our financial situation isn't too bad (currently at $43,000 with the full $50k loan to pay off) but I refuse to pay over the odds for fighters with 0-0 or losing records. Of course that might have to change if I can't get enough fighters for a second show together.

It does get incredibly frustrating, particularly the other night when I sent out 20+ contracts and logged in the next morning to find five contracts declined and fifteen with no response. Gradually more rejections and the occasional acceptance came through but still the majority of the money I've spent on the company is tied up in pending contracts and I only have the patience to prune them every so often. There's nothing that annoys me more than looking at the managers of fighters with pending contracts that have logged in very recently but haven't accepted or declined my contract offer, I'm not entirely sure what they're waiting for but it's tying up money that I can't really afford to waste.

A couple of things that are making my life a bit easier (just so this article isn't all moaning!) are the two screens that weren't around when I first ran a company in the contracts page. Being able to set a template and heading straight to the new fighters takes a lot of time out of the mass hiring process, it's just a shame that there aren't that many new fighters to offer contracts to! It may get to the stage where I have to start creating fighters (I have three spaces free) to get some extra bodies in the org, I know it's not the most accepted of practices but at this moment in time I'm a desperate man.

If anyone does have any fighters looking for a fight org in New York no matter what their experience or ability please let me know, I'll offer a higher signing bonus to anyone who contacts me directly after reading this!

Look out for a preview of the first LFL show soon, my intention is to make it as ridiculously over-hyped as possible considering it's a bunch of unknowns fighting in a 400 seat arena in New York. Thanks for reading!
