Hello everyone I’m “Sunshine” Weston Markson along with my partner Rudy “the box” Knife, and we are here to discuss HMMA 65.   HMMA 65 is another great card, this card has Hall of Famer French Toast headlining when he takes on Igor Tatov in a  heavyweight clash of titans.   The Card also has two fighters making their HMMA debut in the CO-MAIN event.  This whole card has fights with people near the top of their divisions looking to gain ground on the rest and earn a title shot.

Rudy:  You know Weston if you call me your partner and make me sound that way one more time im going to punch you in the face….and everyone knows you cant take a punch bro.  I don’t know about you but im really excited to see these fights.  There are a lot of fighters that are looking really good going into these fights and I will enjoy seeing if they can continue their momentum.  If I were to pick one fight I was looking forward to the most I would say Keijo v Maeda is the one im most excited for.  Lets get right into this.

MAIN EVENT

4th French Toast                 (15-3)v  7th  Igor “Rat-a-tat” Tatov (22-14)

Weston:   We have an awesome main event for you all when two top ten ranked heavyweights collide in hall of famer French Toast, and Igor Tatov.  Now no one needs to big up French Toast, we all know the credentials two time HMMA heavyweight champion, Hall of Famer, the best heavyweight to grace Heroic’s cage and one of the most dangerous men in the division on any given night, but what some may not realize is Toast has a fire that has been lit inside him.  After Toast’s last fight in which he dropped the HW title he was left wondering how, how did this happen!  After some thought Toast thinks he has the answer and will look to build upon that loss and fine tune his strategy, and now more motivated then ever with something to prove any foe of Toast better come prepared for war.  Igor Tatov will look to do exactly that.  Tatov and his manager have been going around letting people know they think he is a sleeper in a very stacked division.  They think he could one day soon be wearing HMMA gold around his waist.  If his first fight in HMMA has any clue, they may be right in his last fight Tatov broke into the HMMA heavyweights divisions top 10 by beating Retsu Kaioh, a man many considered to be a slight favorite.   Will Tatov get another big win? Or will Toast dispel another challenger with title hopes and jump right back into the title picture?

Rudy:  I have your answer Weston, but lets get to that later.   This fight is going to be nuts.   These two fighters are always looking to put their opponent away.   With 31 out of their combined 39 fights having been by some form of finish you can cant on both men going to the center of the cage and looking to impose their will on each other.  Toast you can expect to use his ground advantage and lethal GNP and submissions to pick up a victory, while Tatov will most likely look to stand and capitalize on his advantage in the striking game.  It doesn’t matter where the fight takes place both men can defend against the other wherever it goes and even steal a victory playing the others game.  So who takes this one?

Prediction:  last time Toast lost his title he ended up losing one more fight before going on a streak to get his title back…this time I think he doesn’t lose two straight I have Toast by decision.

CO-MAIN EVENT

8th John “The Wonderchild” Mayer (15-7)             v 10th  Freeman Blackford (11-2-1)

Weston:  The CO-MAIN event of HMMA 65 is another heavyweight fight between two young and talented debuting prospects in John Mayer, and Freeman Blackford.  Either of these two heavyweight fighters could one day hold the title, both of these guys have a lot of hype behind them, Mayer comes into the fight on a three fight win streak, and Blackford comes into the fight after losing for the first time in six fights.  Whoever wins this fight will find themselves near the top of a crowded division possibly just a couple wins away from an opportunity to face the champion.

Rudy:  I love debuts, why? Because both of these guys have something to prove, they want to send a message to everyone in their division that they are a force, they want to put fear into all future opponents, this makes for great fights.  Both of these guys have very solid well-rounded skillsets but Mayer tends to keep the fight standing while Blackford often looks to mix it up a little more and work in a takedowns, it will be intriguing to see what these two come out and do and how they approach the fight will they stand in the middle of the cage and test each others chin?  Or will we see the fight hit the ground?  We know one thing with all but 5 fights between the two of them ending in KO it’s a safe bet that someone is getting KTFO.

Prediction:  Close fight in all aspects, I think Freemen Blackford will score a late (t)KO win.

MAIN CARD

5th "Peltosaaren Teurastaja" Brutaali Keijo  (13-10-1)v  9th "Kaunto Sentō" Mitsuyo Maeda (8-3-1)

Weston:   The next fight on the main card is a welterweight fight between  two of the divisions top ten fighters, Brutalli Keijo and Mitsyuo Maeda.   Keijo has had an interesting run in HMMA, and probably three of the closest fights anyone has had to start a career in HMMA.  His first fight was a draw, his second a rematch that resulted in a close split decision loss that HMMA officials treated as a win, in his last fight another close controversial split decision but this time he was on the winning side and made a jump to #5 in the welterweight division.  This time around Keijo will want to make a statement by not just winning but doing so decisively, but the man entering the cage with him has something else in mind.  Mitsuyo Maeda is making him HMMA debut as the 9th ranked fighter at WW Maeda believes he is one of the elite fighters at WW and will look to prove that right from the start winning his HMMA debut and making it three straight wins inside the cage.

Rudy:  This fight will be great, two elite WW’s in a fight that has a lot of implications to division standing and contender ship.   Both of these fighters have well rounded skill sets and wherever the fight takes place they bring the action, if Maeda has an advantage its he has proven to be hard to finish, and Keijo has a history of when being unable to finish opponents turning it very close fights and dropping decisions.   The other side of that is that Keijo is the better finisher so he may be the man to break the will of Maeda.

Prediction:  In a close fight ill take Keijo by dec.

8th Lech Trochomirski (14-5) v  10th Rand "The Dragon Reborn" al Thor (15-7)

Weston:   The next fight is a Light-Heavyweight showdown between Lech Trochomirski, and the debuting Rand al Thor.  This fight is one of the most even fights HMMA has put together, these two guys are nearly identical.  They both have almost the same skill set, they are practically sharing a spot in the rankings, the hype and expectations are similar.  This will just be a fun fight to see who could be the next standout in the LHW division.  On Saturday both of these men will enter the HMMA cage on a two fight win streak, but only one will come out with the win streak intact.

Rudy:  Ok people get your popcorn ready this fight is going to be brutal.   These two are so evenly matched and can fight anywhere the fight goes, both tend to finish their opponent, Rand al Thor has (t)KOed 14 out of the 15 men he has defeated in the cage, and Trochomirski has finished 10 out of his 14 wins.  This fight I don’t think will last long so enjoy the entertainment while it lasts.

Prediction:   I think Lech takes this fight if he avoids the power of Rand al Thor, ill take Lech by (t)KO late.

Erwin Korba (13-9)  v  5th  "Bazinga" Gugo Ograni (22-9-1)

Weston:   The next fight is a Middleweight fight between Erwin Korba and fifth ranked Gugo Organi.  Organi comes into the fight on a two fight win streak and having lost only one of his five HMMA fights, with Organi starting to make noise in the division he could very well be a contender down the road if he continues to win.  Korba’s last fight was his HMMA debut against Mikko Sakkinen the fight didn’t last long as it only took Korba half a round to lock on a Kirmura and make Sakkinen tapout.   Sitting just outside the top ten because of his lack of fights inside HMMA Korba has a huge opportunity to make a name for himself in this division by knocking off a highly ranked foe.

Rudy:  This fight is interesting because you have two guys who are primarily ground based fighters.  They both are always looking to get the fight to the ground and submit their opposition.  Korba does possess the better BJJ on paper but you never know how these things play out fight time, Ograni has an advantage standing and even though he is normally a ground fighter he may look to use this and keep the fight standing.  I really have no clue how these two fighters will approach each other but I cant wait to find out.

Prediction:  Simple if the fight ends up going to the ground I think Korba will win by late sub or dec.  If Gugo keeps it standing or can get on top of Korba I think he can ride out a dec win.

John Conteh (8-2) v  Brick Top (26-13)

Weston:  The first fight on the main card is sure to be entertaining.   Conteh is one of the brightest young stars in the division coming in at 5-2 in HMMA competition.    Not long ago Conteh was in a fight many were considering to be a number one contenders fight against Julian Casablancas, Conteh came out of that fight with a decision loss now after a win in his most recent fight Conteh will look to put together another win streak and run to the top of the division.  I for one think Conteh could make it all the way to the top, but standing in his way is Brick Top.  Brick Top’s last fight was his HMMA debut where he ran into a buzzsaw Nate Barnes as he makes his way to elite and contender status.  With two guys that are just outside the top ten a win here will most likely put the victor back in the top ten.

Rudy:  What a fight two fighters who have finished 75% or better of their wins.  Either fighter can not just win this fight wherever it goes, but finish it.  Conteh has the better Boxing but Brick Top is very powerful and could catch Conteh if he drops his hands.  Conteh is at a small disadvantage on the ground but not so much that if he doesn’t make a mistake he is doomed.  As long as he stays patient and works to get back to his feet he should have enough ground skill to keep from being submitted.  With two powerful guys this one will come down to who connects first and my prediction for that is…

Prediction:  Conteh in what some consider to be an upset.

PRELIMS

Weston:  The prelims of this card are fighters who could very well main event in another situation, in fact they have, and one of them is even a former Middleweight champion.  These fights are often the unsung heros of the night as they come out looking to prove they belong and improve their standing in the divisions.  The last fight before going to the main card what I call the main event of the prelims is a middleweight fight between two ranked fighters.  Lasi Kukko and Mr Translucent.  Kukko a former champion wants to get back to the top and with a win over Translucent that will help.  While Translucent looked good in his last fight and could be on his way to greatness if he beats Kukko.

Another great fight is the Lightweight fight between Tarmo Suulas and Daniel Krigare.  Suulas is another fighter on the prelims but ranked very high in his division.  Krigare was recently ranked in the top ten but after his last performance dropped out.   Now he will look to take the momentum of Tarmo and make it his own.

Rudy:  Okay Weston I sees the two fights you are talking about on the prelims and ill raise you two.  The opening fight of the night could very well be the one im most looking forward to seeing.  Everyone knows I love a good scrap and Nick Fury is one of those guys who brings it, I have said it before and I will again Fury is one of if not my favorite fighter.  If any of you missed the weigh ins Nick Fury seemed quite upset with HMMA president Wilson Thieatcres he got on the scales and threated Wilson, I couldn’t quite make out what he said but it didn’t look good.  He mentioned something about being undervalued by being put on the prelims.  Fury is use to main eventing cards and after his time away to train with monks he may have been a little hurt by being on the prelims.  I for one will say Tcres is a dumbass for not having Fury be the main event this guy is instant ratings!  But Weston im not don’t yet there is another fight on the prelims that’s sure to be interesting.  Mikael Samoth and Mark Adams meet inside the cage in a heavyweight collision, both guys are fighting for improved standing in the division and both are capable of putting together some solid wins to find themselves ranked.

7th Lasi Kukko  v 9th  Mr Translucent

Mikael Samoth  v  Mark Adams

5th Tarmo Suulas  v  Daniel Krigare

Happy Gilmore  v  Nick Fury
