Immortals New York

Editorial by Marcus Crassus

Immortals New York Musings

INY 50 decided the two fighters who will contest the first ever 135lb title fight. Escobar’s BJJ has been incredible to date, and will face a man he has already bested in McLaren, who also looks a handful. A great title fight for INY fans and it is now signed for INY 57. Kikovic has also impressed and will likely face Parasca for a shot at the winner, with Arashikage will get a striking match against the impressive Sheldon.

Huge fight on Jan 12 with Erik Bennett taking on Number one contender Donald Stewart who has got his shot the hard way. Bennett has looked even better since signing with the Jack Demon camp. Monroe rematches Kharmalov for a title shot, with the unfortunate Kharmalov having previously drawn and dropped a decision in eliminators. Bernhard Taylor returns at 170 and faces the exciting John Davies in a mouthwatering clash of strikers on Jan 18.

Immortals welcome Roger Xu straight from the Under 21 Tourney, with an opponent yet to be named.

At 185 Ventura was very impressive in his recent demolition of Bowman Rook. No one expected him to dismantle Rook in this way, and that win has certainly silenced the critics that claimed he had no power. Next up is a grudge match against former champion Melton Snr. I can’t recall the Melton Camp losing back to back to the same opponent so expect fireworks.

On the Jan 5, Elvis Ronan fights Milton Night, and I suspect a serious challenge to Ventura’s title to come from the winner of this match up.

The Jimmy Da Jet camp had a great win with Schmukinphart defeating Beretta and setting a match up with Mink who had a fine win over Turd.

205 champ Youngblood faces Winnfield on Jan 23 in what should be an epic clash of strikers. This division has some terrific match ups in January with the streaking Fujinami facing Selmy, Shamar Jackson squaring off against another fighter in need of a win, Cullen Castrello, and Serj Wunderkind waiting to hear if Samir Oliva will sign their contract. One to watch on Jan 19 is Bueno versus Kalenth, a truly high quality affair between two experienced camps, and two good fighters.

Kalashnikov awaits for the winner of the Devin Styles vs Walter Kurtz clash, with the winner fighting for the title. Purists will hope this leads to Kaleshnikov vs Styles III, but as we saw with Soham Roy upsetting Kalashnikov for the title, we can take nothing for granted. Soham Roy took the title by beating arguably the best striker in the division, so facing Derric Styles isn’t likely to faze the Myron Monroe camp anymore than facing Kalashnikov. A Roy victory would certainly signal a new era in the INY 265 division with an abundance of young talent waiting ominously in the ranks. Optimus Rimes looks a talent and a win tomorrow night over Lebedev would send a message to the big boys. Mikhail Van Kirkland will try to fend off the challenge of a young contender in Ibakka, in a cross roads match up on Jan 5th.

The Brown vs Fontes title fight at 265+ was 1min 48 secs of brutality with both men dropped and Brown coming out on top making it 1-1 between this two. Brown will now defend against Chikatilo in the biggest fight in the history of the division.

This division is packed with talent. Bison Bradley is on a roll but faces the undefeated Banks 4-0 next in true test for both young fighters. A number of fighters could be contesting the title in 2013, with Fontes, Peitexeira, King, Olavski and Hotop among those currently in the title picture.

A truly incredible 2013 awaits the Immortals fight family.
