I'm just trying to get the conscensus (sp) on this. When I watch MMA, I don't consider any fight boring, though some are more exciting then others but not boring. It's like I'm not going to turn off a fight because it's less exciting. This comes from the MMA Facebook groups I'm in and the live chat on the stream Saturday night. Almost everybody was either calling Usman boring or that they just woke up because they fell asleep when the fight started. Is he really boring, are these fights actually boring, I don't see it that way. Is it just me?

To me, Usman is generally quite boring and I found his fight with Masvidal to be pretty much as exciting as any of his fights are - hardly. Obviously Usman is an extremely skilled fighter and employs the most effective and sensible gameplan that he can, but it isn't for me.

Also, I really don't subscribe to the often held opinion that if you find some fights boring (particularly stallers) that you must be a casual. If anything it's the opposite, and by pretending that every fight is interesting highlights that. I watch cards from promotions in India and South Africa ffs, there's nothing casual about fans like me.

Fook Usman and fook boring fighters and if you like them then lucky you!

Usman vs Colby was a great fight but he's Snoozeman for a reason. Not a fan of watching it, and wouldn't pay him extra money because of it when it came to contract negotiations.

I find certain fights to be incredibly boring. definitely not a fan of that lay and pray snooze fest shit. wrong sport imo but it's entirely your right to fight like that when you step in the cage.

I think there is something a bit poser-y to saying no fights can be boring. I can't think of any other sport where you would get hate for calling a match boring.

I respect anyone who is willing to lock themselves in a small space with another human being who wants to hurt you. Some fights are better then others and some are 100% boring but once the cage locks entertainment should be secondary to winning and I don't respect people any less for taking a less exciting approach. Boring is a feeling, I can respect you and also be bored.

Khabib is a finisher, he goes for it. Usman is a decision guy who usually seemed to neutralize his opponent more then do damage and people tend to find that boring, which I agree to a point.

But Khabib mauls people and makes them quit. Big difference brother. It’s a thing of beauty to watch Khabib in my opinion.

Usman is a stronger (and black) Jon Fitch. Not that I hate it, I actually think it can be a thing and is up to the other guy to find a tech to neutralize it.

Lets remember what happened in Maia vs Fitch?
https://www.dailymot...om/video/xx8o9a

So, guy is strong/stalling and your tech is not working? Variation, poke for a reaction, variation, variation, variation. Easier said than done, but thats it.

Also, calling it boring or "Just stalling" is not a casual thing. Lots of pro jiu jitsu fighters used to call 50/50 a "stalling position" and "jiu jitsu cancer"... Now we see 50/50 can be a dynamic and offensive position (Keenan won what, a Pan-AM hitting an armbar from 50/50 on one of the Miyao brothers?).

Dunno, I may be a kind of a hipster, proto-hipster, whatever... But its amazing I always dig the counterculture in fighting. My main attacks in judo where leg attacks, specially kata guruma ushiro goshi and ura nage. BANNED. Then my game turned into fake sumi-gaeshi and pull the game into newaza, only to hear "Fuck you Barney this is not jiu jitsu". In jiu jitsu I like to do the things people in Brazil frown on you. Wrist locks, leg locks, 50/50, half(z) guard, etc... The "stalling" and "sneaky" game. "Too much stronk". But I like to make people feeling uncomfortable rolling with me, making them feel like a midget on a urinol, always on their toes.
So maybe I am biased. But also maybe you just cant change conservatives ("these kid this days, going for this crazy leglocks, in my time jiu jitsu was legit") or the just bleed (fuck this 50/50 I WANNA SEE TAP OR SNAP) minds, and the sport is evolving. The days of sluggish no technique Don Frye low guard are gone...

TLDR: Some fights are like strong chilli, not for everyone.
TLDR: Some fights

i think a casual would be a person who doesn't know the rules, like the person in the live stream chat that said Usman should have gotten points deducted for foot stomps. Foot stomps are legal. They're actually a move you can learn in the UFC video games.

There are definitely boring fights but by the same token it is MMA , I wouldnt call someone a casual for saying it but many fans now are more caught up in the fake WWE persona shit than the actual martial arts which does annoy me. Sure no one gives a phuck what I think though lol

Completely disagree. I find khabibs complete shutting down of opponents to be very interesting, watching them flail on the ground with terror in their eyes. You get to see just how bad the GNP is sapping away their will as Khabib traps their limbs. Usman on the other hand just holds them against the cage for the most part, and there's fuck all fun about that.

foot stomps are almost in the category of oblique kicks from a competitive stand point. not saying the can't be effective, it's just petty shit. oblique is different category because of injuries it can cause but not something you practice sparring.

I've seen Khabib in some not so entertaining fights iirc. It happens. I've seen Anderson Silva in a snoozer (Maia, Lutter, Thiago) and many others. Plenty of room for excitement in a grappling match but the Usman, Guida, Fitch, Blaydes... more often than not they bore me. Not every time... but a lot more frequently than I'd like. T-Wood was pretty rough to watch for 5 rounds too.

I didn't think Romero vs Izzy was that boring, but that's probably because they weren't a boner removed away from a gay porno. The thought of a big kick or something crazy was enough to keep me interested but most these dudes with their L&P, nothing unpredictable is going to happen except maybe the guy on the bottom goes for the no risk no biscuit and gets choked out/beat up in the process.

I find most fights interesting in some way, even the parts where they are "just" sitting in guard since I often appreciate the small nuances in grappling. But not the outright stalling (from any position) or excessive circling around in standup. I can appreciate it on a tactical level, it is sometimes the right thing to do for a fighter, but still no fun to watch.

I think any form of stalling is boring and I am a hardcore UFC Fan. There were multiple times in the fight Jorge could've been finished in that fight but Marty the Nigeria Nyquil decided to just lay and press in the clinch and on the ground. I can admit I really wanted Jorge to win so that we see McGregor vs Masvidal. However when minutes pass by in a round where Is man is just laying or toe crushing his opponent, it remonds me why I stream fights still and don't buy them. I Rob them before they Rob me. Khabib tries to kill his opponent in the ring, it is not the same thing IMO.

Fuck yeah I forgot about that. Anderson Vs Maia and Romero vs Izzy where shitty. Pride's Yellow Card should come back.

Usman is boring.  You don`t need to practice MMA to know that lol.

He fought the safest fight ever as predicted.

Even from a betting perspective it was amazing catching the line at -230 after the first round instead of -270 at closing.  Everybody knew he would just stall aganst the cage after Round 1
