We are up and running, and already with 44 fighters spread across all divisions, building momentum quickly.

Our first event is out of the way, with our second event scheduled tomorrow night.

Our main focus at the moment is to build the 205lbs Division, followed by the 135lbs.

However we are signing fighters for all divisions, and concentrating on 180+ fighters, to have nice even bouts.

For more information PM me.

We are going to shut down the 265 division for now, and move all three 265lbs fighters up to the 265+ division, and have 5 fighters in there instead. We plan on building this to give a better opportunity for our current fighters in both divisions to fight different opposition, instead of the same opposition.

Our three main divisions are:

205lbs - Number one priority (Once we have twenty fighters in the divisions, there will be a tournament)

135lbs - Number two priority (Building with some good fighters)

265+lbs - Number three priority

Still recruiting 180+ fighters

CCF #1 Wrapup

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-1.png

Canberra Cage Fighter held its first event CCF #1 on Sunday night, and what it lacked in ticket sales, it made up for in quality of fights.

265+lbs – Terry Thunder v Adam Eater

The first Undercard bout was between two giants, in the 265+lbs Division, with Terry “Down Under” Thunder (1-4-0) taking on Adam “Ant” Eater (1-0-0). With Thunder’s poor form taken into account, this one wasn’t expected to last the distance, and Eater made sure of that when he lands a massive elbow from side control, then follows it up with three more before the Ref stepped in to save Thunder. 2:33 Round 1 TKO (Strikes) to Adam Eater, who will go on to fight for the Title at CanCage 3.

205lbs – Jordan Jackson v Barry McKinnon

Next up we have the Number One contenders fight for the 205lbs division, between “The Joker” Jordan Jackson and “The Hand Grenade” Barry McKinnon. Interesting fight as both these fighters, fight for Buster Boundoz, and this is the debut fight for both. But after cutting Jackson in the first 1 ½ minutes, then unleashing with a big right hand that saw Jackson flat on his back, the writing was on the wall. McKinnon toyed with him from there, waving him back to his feet, only to take him down into guard. At 3:56 McKinnon maintaining the dominant position and working Jackson, he successfully locked in the Kimura and that was enough, with Jackson tapping out after hearing the elbow go “SNAP!”

145lbs – Carl Chan v Dun Fighten (Title)

With a small pool of fighters in the 145lbs division, two fighters from the Big Buddha stables in Carl “Jackie” Chan and Dun “Cowboy” Fighten went toe to toe for the Title. Both these fighters are Blue belts in BJJ, and very evenly matched as the first round showed, with ever action being countered by their opponent. The second round was very one sided with Chan dominating Fighten. The third round was as close as the first, and it could have gone either way. With the final bell, it would be a Judges decision. And with two Judges scoring the fight 29:28 to Fighten, and the third Judge scoring 29:29, via Majority Decision Dun “Cowboy” Fighten walks away with the Title, but knowing he was in a great fight.

205lbs – Jaxon Bailey v Bubby Brown (Title)

“Nightmare” Jaxon Bailey (2-2-0) taking on the debutant in “Bad Boy” Bubby Brown. This was Solid Muay Thai v BJJ Blue belt. In the first minute there was counter after counter. Just after the 1 minute mark, Bailey got into position for a sub attempt, but that was quickly countered by Brown who worked some nice Ground and Pound from close in, in the half guard position. At the 2 minute mark, Brown was just maintaining position, but then as Bailey tried to get back to half guard, Brown manages to take his back, and as the 3 minute mark ticks by Brown locks in the rear naked choke, and Bailey passes out. 3:29 Round 1 Submission by Rear Naked Choke to Bubby Brown. SUBMISSION OF THE NIGHT

135lbs – Ray Richardson v Warrock Warner (Title)

And then we came to our Co-Main Event. The 135lbs Title match betweeni Ray “Razor” Richardson (2-0-0) and “Black Sheep” Warrock Warner (0-0-0). The first round was anyones for the taking and it appeared that Warner had it covered by the end. Through the mid stages Richardson did dominate for a part, however overall Warner had it for sure. Round 2 started the same way Round 1 did, with Richardson playing to his wrestling strengths, shooting in, and going for a takedown, which he landed. By the 2 minute mark of the second round, the fans were standing and cheering both fighters on, knowing that they are both giving their all. Round 2 was very tight. So tight that a flip of the coin could decide who won the round. Unfortunately for Warner Round 3 was all one way traffic, and it wasn’t his way.Richardson dominated the third round, however couldn’t finish the job, so the final decision went to the Judges. Ray Richardson won the Title by Unanimous Decision, after three great rounds. FIGHT OF THE NIGHT

185lbs – Ricky Winter v Frank Inator (Title)

To wrap up the evenings entertainment, was the fight that everyone came to see. Ricky “The Answer” Winter (3-0-0) against Frank “The Tank” Inator (0-0-0). This one was over before it began. Inator shot in for takedown attempts three times, and three times he was repelled. The third time Winter made sure of it, with a Jab, cross, Leg kick combo, that cut Inator open viciously. Another combo then another combo and Inator was out on his feet. With that the bloodlust kicked in for Winter, and he finished Inator off with a Left, right, uppercut combo, and watched as Inator fell flat on his face, breaking his nose, eyes wide open, but out like a light. 1:14 Round 1 KO (Punches) victory to Ricky Winter and the new 185lbs Title Holder

With only 217 fans in attendance, not a lot of people had the pleasure of watching these events unfold, however those that did will be talking about it for weeks.

CCF #2 Wrapup

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-2a.png

Unfortunately Canberra Cage Fighter’s second event was let down by two No Contests. One was my fault by signing the fighter to the wrong weight division, the other was the fighter didn’t strip enough weight in time for the fight. This fighter was going to struggle to strip enough weight for each fight, so new contracts have been signed with these two fighters. However the fights that did go ahead did not disappoint

265lbs – Saxon Hynes v Robert Barones (Title)

The first undercard bout was actually a title fight for the soon to be defunct 265lbs division, between Saxon “The Saxon” Hynes and Robert “Bones” Barones. In the first 20 seconds, Hynes faked a strike, closed the distance and dragged Barones to the ground. This didn’t work out as well for Hynes as he expected, as Barones pulled him in close to his closed guard, preventing any damaging blows to follow, or advancing his position. From there Barones swept and got himself on top in mount, before raining down hammerfists. With all the blows to the head and the body, it didn’t take long for Hynes to be cut up badly, while Barones didn’t let up. Hynes tried to get back to half guard, however a massive elbow from Barones, followed by more strikes from the mount, and Hynes tapped out at the 1:58 mark of the first round.

135lbs – Calil Ramos v Eric Draven

Unfortunately Eric Draven was signed to the wrong weight division, so this fight did not proceed.

145lbs – Brett Dongalletta v Juan Ramirez

There was much Hype around this fight, with both managers talking up there charges chances. With Brett “The Don” Dongalletta going up against “Angel” Juan Ramirez, it was left up to their fighters to do the talking in the cage. The first round was dominated by Dongalletta, with only a few passages where Ramirez got the better of him. By the end of the first round Ramirez was just trying to prevent damage prior to the bell. Round two went straight to the ground with Dongalletta getting side control. In the first couple of minutes, a couple of submission attempts were made, however the ever elusive Ramirez was able to avoid them. At the 4 minute mark, however Ramirez confused the crowd when he decided to stand. He was standing for long with Dongalletta taking him to the ground almost instantly. Before another submission attempt could be completed, the bell rang for the end of round two, with everyone tipping Dongalletta doing just enough to win it. After the start of the previous two rounds, going straight to a takedown from Dongalletta, you would have assumed Ramirez would have been watching for it, however he was caught napping, and was taken straight down. This round was a very tight affair, with both fighters having claims at taking the final round, but they have left the decision to the judges. So with a Unanimous Decision, Brett Dongalletta walks away with the bragging rights from this one.

170lbs – Luke Lazzarino v Buddy Palermo (Title)

With such a small divison, “Lucky Luke” Luke Lazzarino and Buddy “Babyface” Palermo faced off trying to get the upper hand in the 170lbs divison, with the title on the line. In the first minute of the first round, Lazzarino gets into a clinch with Palermo and works it hard. First with knees to the body before a glancing elbow cuts Palermo. With blood clouding his vision, Palermo was no match for Lazzarino for the rest of the round, with a continual barrage of knees and fists coming from Lazzarino. With the cut attended to between rounds, Palermo became elusive to Lazzarino’s clinch attempts. Then Palermo after dodging an elbow pounces, grips Lazzarino, picks him up and dumps him to the ground. As luck would have it, Lazzarino lands in guard, and can control what happened. At the two minute mark of the round, and Lazzarino really started to get on top of his opposition. A mistake by Lazzarino at the three minute mark, and Palermo goes for an armbar. He almost gets it locked in, before Lazzarino escaped, and got into side control on top. The rest of the round was just Lazzarino controlling exactly what happened until the bell. The cut man worked furiously on Palermo’s cut again, before sending him back out for the final round. With the blood loss, and the expended energy trying to escape clinches, the third round was definitely not Palermo’s. Lazzarino dominated the final round, and the Judges saw it the same way, awarding a Unanimous Decision in favour of our new 170lbs Title Holder Luke Lazzarino.

205lbs – Mike Tyrell v Gil Gilbert

Next up we had “The Sandman” Mike Tyrell fighting Gil “Gilly”Gilbert. The bell rang and immediately Gilbert went on the offensive, with a great head kick, followed by a clinch. With the crowd calling for knees, Gilbert obliged, and took all the wind out of Tyrell’s sails. Moving to get into a better position, Gilbert took Tyrell down and successfully pulled guard. From guard, Gilbert went for a triangle and locked it in. Tyrell tried to fight it, but not being able to escape, tapped out at the 0:44 mark of the first round.

185lbs – AJ March v Brutus Maximus

With both fighters being blue belt in BJJ, it looked like it was going to be “The Monster” AJ March and his Muay Thai against “Rude Head” Brutus Maximus and his solid boxing. And the fight didn’t disappoint. The first round was a tight affair, with both fighters having dominant spells, however it was Maximus that looked to have taken it. The second round was looking real good for Maximus until he got a double leg takedown in, that March got the better of. March started working Maximus hard from the bottom, with some great ground and pound work, and this continued for the rest of the round. The third round, and the fighters left nothing in the tank, with both fighters having claims at winning the round, but as we all know, you shouldn’t leave it to the judges. Or more to the point, Maximus shouldn’t have, as the Judges gave the bout to AJ March with a Unanimous Decision. Great fight by both fighters.

135lbs – Ben Doon v Bruno Malfacino

Unfortunately our main event could not go ahead, as Ben Doon struggled with injury and couldn’t strip enough weight in time. His manager apologised, and suggested that his fighter would continue to struggle to make weight. Ben Doon has renegotiated a contract for the 145lbs division instead, and passes on his apologies to Bruno for failing to make weight.

CanCage 3 (12 June 2012) Preview

The start of a new name for Canberra Cage Fighter hosted events. And what a card we have for this Tuesday night showdown. We have taken it to a smaller venue, to ensure we have a great atmosphere. The other reason, is that the last Event had 2 x NC's on the Card, which did nothing to help bring in the crowds. For the first time in the organization's short life, we have a full Fight Card. So with that said, lets get onto the fights.

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-3.png

145lbs - Dun Fighten v Tyrone Doherty (Title) - Prediction: Doherty by Submission

This is a setup to be a slugfest with both fighters proficient in Standup fighting. This will be more around who gets the better of their opponent on the ground, and in the clinch. Dun Fighten only just won the title, in his last outing, by a Majority Decision, and will be very nervous if he lets it go the distance. Doherty has only had one fight, and that was prior to joining CCF, against ironically one of the organizations 155lbs fighters.

135lbs - Mike Valentine v Warrock Warner - Prediction: Valentine by KO

This is Valentine's boxing ability verse Warner's BJJ ability. Warner is still hurting after being annihilated in his previous bout which was for the title, and will want to pay his manager back the faith that has been shown to fly him to Australia and train. Valentine is a debutant however has been training hard, and now it is going to be the time, to work out if that training has paid off.

155lbs - Xavier Hudson v Paul Chapman - Prediction: Hudson by Decision

This bout has the signs of going all the way. Chapman is a greater boxer comparatively, however Hudson makes up for it with his Muay Thai and Wrestling. Chapman will want to remain on his feet, but if Hudson gets him to the ground, this bout may finish rather rapidly. Chapman has already lost one fight in his career by Decision, and I think this will be number two. The winner of this fight, will face off with the winner of the next bout, for the title at their next Event

155lbs - Nova Summer v Alister Jennings - Prediction: Summer by Submission

Nova Summer is 2-0-0 in his career, with both being by Submission. Jennings career is not going as well, sitting 0-1-0. Summer had one of his wins against Doherty (145lbs Div), however both wins have been dominating performances. I can't see that changing with this fight, with Summer's Boxing and Muay Thai ability getting the better of Jennings. The winner of this fight, will face off with the winner of the previous bout, for the title at their next Event.

185lbs - Jake Hurrell v Kyle Nowak - Prediction: Hurrell by Decision

I think this will be another that goes the distance and is left up to the Judges to decide. Jake Hurrell is purely a stand up fighter, where as Nowak will be trying to take it to the mat, where he does his best work. Nowak hasn't fought a pure boxer in his four (1-3-0) fights to date, so it willi be interesting to see how he handles it. Hopefully Hurrell's training has been affected too badly by the infury he sustained in his previous fight, and goes into this one, not carrying an injury.

205lbs - Errol Flynn v Nathan Corbett - Prediction: Corbett by KO

With both fighters being debutants, it will come down to their skill levels, and Corbett is a very hard match up with Flynn. Flynn is a ground and pound wrestler, whereas Corbett's strengths lie with his Boxing and Muay Thai skills. In saying this he will have to be on his game, and watch for the takedown attempts, where Flynn will more then likely try and take it.

205lbs - Kevin Kelly v Billy Santanu - Prediction: Kelly by Submission

Kevin Kelly showed enough in his last fight, to back him again for this one. His brown belt in BJJ will have in a great position to beat Santanu, who only knows how to let his fists do the talking, as a boxer. As soon as Kelly gets him to the ground, I believe you will see Santanu tap out.

205lbs - Bill Hanrahan v Jordan Jackson - Prediction: Jackson by Submission

Hanrahan will want to stay on his feet, Jackson will want to take it to the ground. The winner of this fight will be determined by who gets their way. Hanrahan has a win with his last fight (1-3-0), which will give him confidence going into this match, against Jackson who was forced to tap out in the first round of his last fight, against the Number One contender, in Barry McKinnon. But in saying that, I feel Jackson will get the better of Hanrahan, as soon as he takes it to the mat.

205lbs - Bubby Brown v Barry McKinnon (Title) - Prediction: Brown by Submission

Some people still believe that Brown got lucky getting the RNC on Jaxon Bailey in the Title fight, and fighting against, McKinnon, will have to bide his time before shooting in for the takedown. McKinnon will try and stay to the outside, and keep it standing as long as possible, using his superior boxing skills. Whereas Brown, is a ground and pound wrestler, with a few tricks up his sleeve. I feel Brown will take as many hits as he needs to to get the takedown completed, and once on the ground will finish McKinnon rather quickly.

265+lbs - Adam Eater v Marty Macallum (Title) - Prediction: Eater by TKO

Two fights(2-0-0) for two TKO victories puts Eater in the mental state he needs to be. Once he enters that ring, he is all business. The big concern for Eater is that both his fights he has stopped in the first round, so their is still a big question mark on his staying ability. Macallum on the other hand only has one fight under his belt, however he went the distance and was the recipient of a Unanimous Decision by the Judges. I think the devour of men, Eater, will prevail in this title fight, and with the 265lbs and 265+lbs division merging into one, I think he will defend the title for a while once he holds it.

CanCage 4 (17 June 2012) Preview

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-4.png

The second time Canberra Cage Fighter has had a full fight card, and what a beauty we have in line. We have gone back to Paddy O’Malley’s, to ensure we can fit more of our fans into the venue. So with that said, let’s get onto the fights, and the predictions.

265+lbs – Saxon Hynes v Pablo Sol - Prediction: Hynes by Decision

Both of these fighters have changed divisions with the closing down of the 265lbs division, and while Saxon “TheSaxon” Hynes fought for the title in 265lbs division and lost, Pablo “The Saint” Sol was training hard, and now holds a Brown Belt in BJJ. Unfortunately for Sol, Hynes does him in most other aspects of MMA, including Wrestling, Muay Thai and Boxing ability. The big concern for Hynes is whether he can get his body healthy enough to participate at 100%. The reason I say this, is he has had trouble with bleeding ever since he was cut badly in CCF #2 (06 June 2012)

145lbs – Carl Chan v Juan Ramirez - Prediction: Ramirez by Submission

This is the rebound fight for both of these men. Carl “Jackie” Chan was beaten for the title at CCF #1 (03 June 2012) while “Angel” Juan Ramirez lost the Number One contender fight at CCF #2 (06 June 2012). So time for redemption, and Chan will have to put all his Muay Thai skills forward, keep to the outside and hurt Ramirez that way. Ramirez on the other hand will be trying to take it to the mat as soon as possible and let his wonderful Wrestling ability shine through.

205lbs – Jaxon Bailey v Roman The Raptor - Prediction: Bailey by Decision

“Nightmare” Jaxon Bailey(2-3-0) is back in the octagon, after losing his title fight in CCF #1 (03 June 2012). This fight will be a stand up slug fest, with both these fighters being Strong in Muay Thai. Bailey’s experience should shine through and get his career back on track.

170lbs – Luke Lazzarino v Nicholis Nabavian - Prediction: Lazzarino by Decision

“Lucky Luke” Luke Lazzarino holds the title for this division, and I can not see him relinquishing it any time soon. This will be Muay Thai (Lazzarino) verse BJJ (Nicholis “Nice Nose” Nabavian), and one manager’s loyalties divided, as both fighters, fight for Pela Fella

205lbs – Eric Draven v Gil Gilbert - Prediction: Gilbert by Submission

Gil “Gilly” Gilbert has focus for just one thing. A title shot in the not to distant future. Standing in his way, is “Destruction” Eric Draven, who has had to wait a long time for this day to arrive. The reason for the delay is being contracted to fight in the wrong weight division. However he has put his spare time to good use in the gym, and will want to prove the wait was worth it to his fans. Unfortunately for Draven, I believe he will have to wait for another bout to get his first win on the board, as Gilbert continues to dominate anyone who gets into the octagon with him.

145lbs – Brett Dongalletta v Ben Doon - Prediction: Dongalletta by Decision

With both Brett “The Don” Dongalletta’s wins coming via Decision, and Ben “The Package” Doon’s only bout being a loss by Decision, I think the trend will continue. This will be Doon’s first fight in this division, as he struggled to strip enough weight in time for CCF #2 (06 June 2012) and was involved with a No Contest. He has struggled with injury since prior to joining CCF, and lets hope he can shake those issues, as he seems to have a bright future in front of him, just not in this bout

135lbs – Ray Richardson v Don Taskme - Prediction: Richardson by Decision

In this bout we see Ray “Razor” Richardson defend his title, against Don “DaDom” Taskme. Unfortunately this appears to be a very one sided affair, but that is only if Richardson gets inside and uses his remarkable Wrestling abilities. But once he takes it to the ground he will have to be careful of Taskme, who is quite handy in the skill of BJJ, and can back that up with his strong Boxing abilities. Being a crowd favourite, I think the fans will get Richardson over the line in this one.

185lbs – Frank Stam v Brutus Maximus - Prediction: Stam by Decision

This shows all the signs of being the Fight of the Night. Frank “Hammer” Stam with his Muay Thai and Wrestling verse “Rude Head” Brutus Maximus with his Boxing and BJJ. I feel Maximus is still letting his last fight loss at CCF #2 (06 June 2012) get into head, instead of concentrating on this upcoming bout. No matter what happens, I think both fighters will come out of this one, broken, requiring a good stint on the sidelines, while the injuries heal.

185lbs – Ricky Winter v AJ March (Title) - Prediction: Winter by TKO

People are starting to wonder, Who can beat this freak of nature that is Ricky “The Answer” Winter(4-0-0). It appears quite simple really. He is remarkable with his fists in a stand up slug fest, with his boxing background, so the way to beat him, is to not get hit by those thundering punches. Easier said then done, YES, however this should be a good match up, with “The Monster” AJ March beign able to use his height advantage, and throw kicks out, to keep Winter from punching holes through him. March will probably be seeing the Stars from his entrance music just before this fight gets stopped, as Winter is a Machine.

135lbs – Bruno Malfacine v Calil Ramos - Prediction: Malfacine by TKO

Bruno Malfacine (10-2-0) can not be beaten by “The Pitbull” Calil Ramos. This will be Ramos’ last fight in Australia, with his deportation papers showing up. Unfortunately he was involved in the other No Contest fight at CCF #2 (06 June 2012), so he knows the frustration the Malfacine went through on the night. The only way Malfacine will lose this fight, is if he trips over on the way to the cage, and cracks his own head open.

CanCage 3 Review

Moving to the smaller venue was a great move, and there wasn’t too much spare room left. With 355 screaming CCF fans rocking up to the Micro Arena (400), it was just the right size venue. The 10 fights on the card didn’t disappoint the fans, and they walked away really revved up, and looking forward to CanCage 4 this weekend. The event rating sky rocketed from CCF #2 (28.91) to an incredible 62.49, which certain showed we are headed in the right direction. So on with the review of the fights

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-3.png

145lbs - Dun Fighten v Tyrone Doherty (Title) - Prediction: Doherty by Submission

With the title on the line, both these featherweights were leaving nothing in the tank. Fighten comes out strong in the first round, however once he started to tire at the end of the round, Doherty started to get the upper hand. Doherty was throwing a lot, but not connecting with many, whereas Fighten was more controlled with how many he threw, but the majority connected. In the second round Doherty dominated for all bar 30 seconds of the round, where Fighter had him against the cage in a Clinch. The third round was more of the same from Doherty, and it wasn’t too hard to work out who the Judges were going to award the title to. Doherty be Unanimous Decision. Predictions 1/1

135lbs - Mike Valentine v Warrock Warner - Prediction: Valentine by KO

Next up were the small dynamo fighters, and we were looking forward to an action packed bout. Just as the bell sounded to start the bout, Valentine’s manager let out a secret. That was that the fighter was still injured from his previous fight. Unfortunately, it showed in the bout, with Warner dominating the fight, and first attempting a side armbar, before bailing out, and locking in an Americana. Post-match celebrations included gyrating in front of the ring girls, and then going home with one of them. Predictions 1/2

155lbs - Xavier Hudson v Paul Chapman - Prediction: Hudson by Decision

The first round was very eventful, with 5 takedowns and 4 standups, although they were all Hudson on the attack, and Chapman couldn’t do anything about it. The second round started with a bang, that of Chapman taking Hudson to the mat. A strange turn of events, that had Hudson attempting submission after submission, including going old school with a 1990’s forearm choke. The second round was another domination by Hudson, and Chapman knew the only way he was going to win the bout, was to take it out of the Judges hands. His new aggressive attitude in the third round didn’t work out for him, with Hudson locking in a Kimura and forcing Chapman to tap out after 1:54. Predictions 2/3 (It wasn’t by Decision, but it was the correct winner)

155lbs - Nova Summer v Alister Jennings - Prediction: Summer by Submission

Going into this bout 2-0-0, nobody thought Summer was going to have any troubles disposing of Alister Jennings, with a record of 0-1-0. This wasn’t entirely the case, with Jennings refusing to succumb to the numerous submission attempts by Summer. However with Summer dominating all three rounds, it wasn’t hard to work out what the Judges decision was going to be. Summer by Unanimous Decision. Prediction 3/4(Not by submission, but the correct fighter non the less)

185lbs - Jake Hurrell v Kyle Nowak - Prediction: Hurrell by Decision

This battle royal went the distance as expected. Hurrell being the standup fighter, verse Nowak the mat fighter. Most of this fight was either standing toe to toe with each other, or clinched up, with the first takedown occurring in the third round. The amazing thing is, even though Nowak stood toe to toe with a boxer, he dominated the first two rounds, and comfortably won the third. All Judges agree with Nowak winning by Unanimous Decision. Predictions 3/5

205lbs - Errol Flynn v Nathan Corbett- Prediction: Corbett by KO

I really should have more faith in my fighters when making predictions, however in my defence this was Flynn’s debut fight. It was Corbett’s debut as well, but I had watched Flynn train, and wasn’t really that impressed. Corbett started off well, with a takedown as soon as he could, however Flynn got into Half Guard which stopped any progress that Corbett thought he could make, so he tried to stand back up. After a minute of Flynn controlling the position, and nothing happening, the ref had no option but to stand it back up. Straight after standing back up, Corbett landed a great kick to Flynn’s head, that Flynn just shook off. Flynn countered with a takedown, and started working on locking in an Americana. He couldn’t get it locked in, and Corbett in his attempts to wiggle out, flips onto his side, with Flynn behind him. Flynn slipped an arm under Corbett’s chin and worked the Rear Naked Choke in nicely. Corbett didn’t get the chance to tap out, before he passed out. Winner by Submission (RNC) is Errol Flynn. Predictions 3/6

205lbs - Kevin Kelly v Billy Santanu - Prediction: Kelly by Submission

The BJJ expertise of Kelly showed, when he clinically locked in an armbar, after taking Santanu to the mat. Santanu screamed in pain, as he tapped out at the 27 second mark of the first round. Kelly the winner by Submission (Armbar) Predictions 4/7 Kelly also won Submission of the Night.

205lbs - Bill Hanrahan v Jordan Jackson - Prediction: Jackson by Submission

Right from the word go, Jackson went in for the clinch, to try and get into a position for a takedown, which was a smart move, playing to his strengths. What wasn’t smart, was walking straight into an elbow that caught him flush on the eye socket and busted him open in the first minute of the fight. Jackson then continued to shoot in for the takedowns, and became predicatable. He was knocked down twice in his attempts, with Hanrahan going for a KO. On each knockdown, Hanrahan waved Jackson back to his feet. And that was just the first minute of the first round. After that, Jackson cleared the blood from his eyes, shot in and got the takedown that he had been so desperate for. There followed numerous submission attempts, however none of them were successful by Jackson. Hanrahan got a RNC locked in just as the bell sounded for the end of the round. After getting his cut attended to, Jackson came out a different fighter in the second round, working Hanrahan over, with multiple submission attempts, that even though weren’t successful, forced Hanrahan to expend a lot of energy. At the 3:54 mark, Jackson finally locked in an arm triangle, and Hanrahan had nothing left to do, but tap out. Jackson by Submission (Arm Triangle) Predictions 5/8

205lbs - Bubby Brown v Barry McKinnon (Title) - Prediction: Brown by Submission

Then we had the Fight of the Night. With the title on the line, Brown wasn’t just going to hand it over, and McKinnon wasn’t going to let Brown keep it. The majority of the first round was fought on the mat, with Brown first attempting to lock in a couple of different submission moves, before McKinnon got into position for an ankle lock submission. Brown was looking like tapping out, just as he made an escape. Bubby Brown only narrowly won the first round. The second round was more of the same. Mostly on the mat, however this round was dominated by McKinnon. He controlled the fight nicely, not really giving the ref a chance to stand it back up. The third round was a tight affair, however, once again won by McKinnon. Not confident of getting the right verdict from the judges though, he continued to try for submission moves. In the end, it was left up to the judges, with all three judges scoring it 29:28 to McKinnon. Predictions 5/9

265+lbs - Adam Eater v Marty Macallum (Title) - Prediction: Eater by TKO

This one was the easiest to predict. Eater has destroyed all comers in the 265+ Division. The only concern would have been the length of the fight. Eater has never been taken the distance, so his stamina has never been tested. Eater’s first move of the fight was a takedown, that both fighters worked hard, to not allow the ref to interfere. Macallum almost got a triangle in before Eater worked himself into a safer position. Eater’s wrestling skills shone through, with some good elbows . Then it was just a matter of ground and pound by Eater. Eventually he cut Macallum bad, then went to work making sure his ground and pound work, all targeted the same spot. Strike after strike hit the spot, and with Macallum not doing enough to stop it, the ref stepped in to stop the bout at 2:57 in the first round, and Adam Eater has won the belt he so richly deserves, by way of the KO of the Night. Predictions 6/10

A fantastic night of fighting by the Canberra Cage Fighter crew. Be sure to catch up with us again this Sunday night, when we head back to Paddy O’Malleys with CanCage 4. Also after CanCage 6, the 205lbs fighters will be participating in a 16 man tournament, with the winner being given first crack at Barry McKinnon’s title belt. So if Bubby Brown wants it back, he is going to have to step up against all comers, as it is a random draw, who will fight who.

Review

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CCF-4.png

The second time Canberra Cage Fighter has had a full fight card, and what a beauty we had. We have gone back to Paddy O’Malley’s, to ensure we can fit more of our fans into the venue. So with that said, let’s get onto the fights, and the predictions.

265+lbs – Saxon Hynes v Pablo Sol - Prediction: Hynes by Decision

This bout was a very short lived affair, between Saxon "The Saxon" Hynes and Pablo "The Saint" Sol. For the first minute Hynes tried hard, but of it, was a takedown. From there Sol took full advantage of being able to get into Half Guard, and work on finishing Hynes off with a Submission. After three failed submission attempts, Sol finally found an exposed arm to isolate, and lock in an Armbar. 2:33 Submission win by Pablo Sol Predictions - 0/1

145lbs – Carl Chan v Juan Ramirez - Prediction: Ramirez by Submission

This was the rebound fight for both of these men. Carl “Jackie” Chan and “Angel” Juan Ramirez had both lost their previous fights. So time for redemption, and Chan was explosive in the first round, taking it to the mat as soon as he could, and even though most of his strike attempts missed, he controlled well enough, and kept busy enough to keep the ref from standing them back up. The start of the second round began as the first round finished with Chan taking the fight to the mat, and controlling for the first minute. However on the back of some good solid strikes, Ramirez got the upper hand, and started to dominate. The third round, and Ramirez took it to the mat with a nice trip takedown straight into side control. Continual punches from Ramirez meant Chan couldn't counter. Then Ramirez cracked Chan with a big right hand but Chan just smiled back at him and invites him to have another go. This was false bravado though, as you could tell the hit rocked him bad. Ramirez then cracked Chan with a big elbow. From there Ramirez immediately mounted and start dropping bombs! The referee jumped in and saved Chan from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Ramirez! 0:55 in the third round, a TKO by Strikes by Ramirez Predictions - 0/2

205lbs – Jaxon Bailey v Roman The Raptor - Prediction: Bailey by Decision

“Nightmare” Jaxon Bailey even though it doesn’t show in being taken to 3:07 in the second round, did as he pleased in this bout, and dominated completely. The 50-50 fighter got his record back to exactly that sitting now at 3-3-0. Prediction – 1/3

170lbs – Luke Lazzarino v Nicholis Nabavian - Prediction: Lazzarino by Decision

“Lucky Luke” Luke Lazzarino holds the title for this division, and I can not see him relinquishing it any time soon. With both fighters fight for Pela Fella, there was no favourite from the manager, he just didn’t want too bad an injury to either fighter. Lazzarino came out looking for a clinch straight away, however Nabavian, worked himself into position, and took it to the mat, straight into Half Guard. From here Nabavian continually worked for a submission, and on the eighth, that’s right, eighth attempt he got a nice tight Guillotine set from the bottom position. 2:20 in the first round, Nabavian by Guillotine submission. Prediction – 1/4

205lbs – Eric Draven v Gil Gilbert - Prediction: Gilbert by Submission

Gil “Gilly” Gilbert had his sights on a title shot, but Eric Draven has put a big dampener on that with a comfortable victory in this fight. Draven used his legs and feet to perfection in this match up, with Gilbert struggling to get in for a takedown. Gilbert finally got a takedown in, however Draven managed to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Gilbert faked a strike then dropped back for an ankle. Draven was seconds away from tapping out, when he managed to escape. From there Draven took control again, and never relinquished it, dominating the first round. Draven didn’t allow Gilbert to get a takedown in at the start of the second round, scoring numerous times with kicks. After 1 minute, Draven started getting adventurous with attempted Head Kicks, missing with the first two, and partially connecting with the third, before Crack! A monster head kick from Draven and Gilbert falls like a tree - timbeeeeeeeeeeerrrr! A highlight reel knockout by Draven! KO by Head Kick win at the 1:46 mark of the second round. Prediction – 1/5

145lbs – Brett Dongalletta v Ben Doon - Prediction: Dongalletta by Decision

Brett “The Don” Dongalletta and Ben “The Package” Doon being very evenly matched on their feet, it was a fascinating bout. The first round started and Doon took it straight to the mat, and started working for a kimura. However couldn’t get it done. The rest of the round was both fighters countering each others attempts at gaining control. Round two had only just begun and Dongalletta catches Doon on his heels and takes it to the mat. After a failed submission attempt by Dongalletta, Doon attempts to get a loose triangle in, but Dongalletta threw his legs off. Doon followed this with another triangle attempt, throwing his legs up from the bottom. Dongalletta freed his head nicely, but in the process Doon switched to an armbar, and next you know Dongalletta started tapping furiously. Prediction – 1/6

135lbs – Ray Richardson v Don Taskme - Prediction: Richardson by Decision

Ray “Razor” Richardson defended his title easily in this bout, against Don “DaDom” Taskme. Richardson got inside and used his remarkable Wrestling abilities. Once he got the takedown completed, Richardson unleashed, rocking Taskme before the first minute was complete. At the 1:36 mark, the ref stepped in to save Taskme from any further injury. Richardson win by TKO due to strikes and took his record to 4-0-0 Prediction – 2/7

185lbs – Frank Stam v Brutus Maximus - Prediction: Stam by Decision

Frank “Hammer” Stam dominated “Rude Head” Brutus Maximus, in this bout, and Maximus must be starting to question his career choice. Maximus rushed in for a clinch, which he got, however once in clinch, Stam dominated with elbows and knees, including cutting Maximus real bad with a great elbow in the first minute. At 1:27 Stam went for a small jab and connects. Then Stam goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Maximus stumbled back but Stam ran in with a huge uppercut knocking Maximus to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Maximus will ever be the same after a knockout like that. Prediction – 3/8

185lbs – Ricky Winter v AJ March (Title) - Prediction: Winter by TKO

People continue to wonder, who can beat this freak of nature that is Ricky “The Answer” Winter, who now sits at 5-0-0. In theory it should be easy. Get inside, and take him to the ground, as his only strength is boxing. Unfortunately, all those that have gone against him, haven’t been able to get inside, without getting clobbered by his fists in the attempt. This one was no exception. For the first 30 seconds March did well, connecting with a few kicks, however all the missed attempts looked to tire him quickly, and a sweet jab from Winter cut March open. Then Winter rocks March with an open hand slap. Blood frenzy kicked in, and Winter rushed forward with a flurry that just missed. As the first minute ticks over, Winter scored with a great hook to the body, that took the wind right out of March. Winter followed this up, with a picture perfect right hand that knocked March out cold. Winter keeps his title, and promoter Brad Wilson will have to continue to look for a challenge to the champ. Prediction – 4/9

135lbs – Bruno Malfacine v Calil Ramos - Prediction: Malfacine by TKO

Bruno Malfacine (10-2-0) could not be beaten by “The Pitbull” Calil Ramos, and it showed, with Malfacine taking the fight to the mat straight away. He attempted a Guillotine from the full mount he had gotten himself into, but Ramos freed himself from that. With Ramos trying to improve his position Malfacine took his back, and started to work a Rear Naked Choke. In the end, no matter what Ramos did, he couldn’t shake Malfacine, and with his last fight in Australia a loss, it will be a miserable trip home to Rio, with his deportation papers showing up just prior to the fight. Malfacine with a submission win by RNC at the 1:51 mark of the first round Prediction – 5/10

Only 50% with the predictions showed, either I am a poor gambler, or the fights were that close that they went either way. The 700 fans that attended and sold out Paddy O’Malley’s walked away with good food and drink in their bellies, great merchandise purchased from the stalls that ZonE Clothing had setup, and extremely happy with the fights that they witnessed.

CanCage 5 (20 June 2012)

Review

http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r167/wilso2276/CanCage-5.png

The next instalment of Canberra Cage Fighter Events had another full fight card, and what a beauty we had. We were back at Paddy O’Malley’s, and for the second event in a row, it was a SELLOUT. So with that said, let’s get onto the fights, and the predictions.

155lbs – Juarez Del Fuago v Paul Chapman – Prediction: Del Fuago by Submission

As the bell went for the first round, Chapman came out firing, connecting with a four punch combo. Unfortunately for Chapman, that is as much as he did in this contest, as Del Fuago took it to the mat, and at the 0:56 mark of the first round, had Chapman tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic. SOS! SOS! After the fight Chapman had the medical team pop his shoulder back into its socket, as Del fuago had popped it out with his kimura submissionPredictions - 1/1

155lbs – Michael Johnson v James Tucker - Prediction: Johnson by KO

The fight started with a flurry of takedown attempts from Johnson, and jabs from Tucker. This continued for the first minute of the fight. Each time Johnson came in for a takedown, he would wear a fist to the head, then Tucker cracked Johnson with a big right hand that sent him to the floor! Johnson was wobbly but he sprang back up to his feet straight away. Tucker continued the onslaught until the 1:36 mark of the first round, when Crack! Tucker connected with the perfect overhand right and Johnson falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Tucker! Predictions - 1/2

145lbs Dun Fighten v Nathan Drake - Prediction: Fighten by Decision

This fight was over in the first minute, when Drake cut open Fighten with a great combo, in the first 30 seconds. Fighten, showed heaps of character though, and continued on, with his blurred vision. Each time he tried something, he seemed to walk straight into the next punch or kick. The cuts man tried his best in between rounds, however the second round was more of the same, and the cut was opened up even more. However, Fighten continued on. More work for the cut man between rounds, however it was in vain, as Drake opened it up further in the third round. Through loss of blood, or lack of energy, at the 2:47 mark of the third round, Fighten was on the wrong end of a connecting jab, followed by a big overhand right. And the next thing Fighten new, was that he was waking up in the back of the ambulance, on the way to hospital for a blood transfusion. Drake with a KO winPrediction – 1/3

205lbs – Nathan Corbett v Billy Santanu - Prediction: Corbett by Submission

As the fight was started, Santanu counters a missed combo from Corbett, with a crisp one two that dropped Corbett. The whole 2:10 of the fight continued in the same fashion with Santanu completedly dominating Corbett. The ref stepped in after Corbett backing straight back from punches, got clipped by the second thrown strike, and the third, then the fourth. As Corbett goes down, Santanu followed up with more strikes, which left the ref no choice. Prediction – 1/4

205lbs – Errol Flynn v William Wild Bill - Prediction: Flynn by Submission

Another fight that didn’t even see the end of the first round, with Flynn getting in for a takedown straight away, and controlling from Half Guard. Flynn tried to pass into mount, but Wild Bill resisted. Unfortunately in the process, Flynn was able to get a Kimura locked in, and Wild Bill taps out at eh 1:55 mark. Prediction – 2/5

135lbs – Warrock Warner v Trent Fuller - Prediction: Warner by Submission

With a BJJ fighter going against a pure boxer, you know that one will try and take it to the mat, while one tries to keep it standing. During this matchup, Warne was easily able to get the takedown complete, and from there it was just at matter of time, before the boxer in Fuller tapped out. This happened at the 1:56 mark when Warner isolated an arm, and extended it into a very nice Armbar.. Prediction – 3/6

170lbs – Buddy Palermo v Rusty Johnson - Prediction: Buddy Palermo by Decision

Without a doubt this was the fight of the night. Both fighters looked like they had it won at various stages of the match, with Johnson just winning the first round, however it was a flip of the coin type decision. The second round began, and it looked like Palermo wasn’t there mentally, and was completely dominated by Johnson. It didn’t look good at that stage for Palermo, however when he came out for the third and final round, he seemed a different fighter, and took control of the fight. But guessing he was behind in the scorecards he knew he had to take it out of the hands of the judges, so attempted submission, moves, and also tried to knock out Johnson at various stages of round three, where Palermo owned the round. But it went to the judges and with all three judges scoring it 29:28, is was a unanimous decision to JohnsonPrediction – 3/7

205lbs – Mike Tyrell v Aussie Dude - Prediction: Dude by Submission

This fight didn’t take long to come to a conclusion either, with Dude completely dominating proceeding before getting a really tight Guillotine in place, and Tyrell having nothing to do but tap out, if he ever wanted to breathe air again. 1:56 Submission win to Aussie Dude. Prediction – 4/8

155lbs – Nova Summer v Xavier Hudson - Prediction: Summer by Decision

This was for the vacant 155lbs title, and both fighters turned up prepared to go the distance. With Summer going for a takedown early, his game plan was simple, keep it on the mat. Hudson was continually trying to get back to his feet, but couldn’t until the ref stepped in, and stood them up. Summer then got another takedown completed, and this time got into full mount. Trying to control the position, Hudson exposed his back to Summer who took full advantage, and locked in a Rear Naked Choke. 3:33 Submission win by Summer for the title. Prediction – 5/9

265+lbs – Ronnie Garvin v Robert Barones - Prediction: Barones by KO

Then the last fight was the big boys. The fight was taken to the mat in the first minute with Garvin getting in a messy Hip Toss. Up to the 2 minute mark, both fighters were trading blows, but then Barones cut Garvin with some ground and pound work from mount. Continuing to rain down shots from mount, and Garvins cut got worse and worse, until the ref called the doctor in at the 2:48 mark, when the doctor called an end to the bout due to the cut. Prediction – 6/10

What a fantastic night of fights, where submissions and KO’s were the order of the night. The judges only had to be called upon to decide one fight. The 700 fans that attended and sold out Paddy O’Malley’s walked away with good food and drink in their bellies, great merchandise purchased from the stalls that ZonE Clothing had setup, and extremely happy with the fights that they witnessed.

CanCage 6 (24 June 2012)

Review

The next instalment of Canberra Cage Fighter Events had another full fight card, and another beauty we had. We were back at Paddy O’Malley’s, and for the third event in a row, it was a SELLOUT. So with that said, let’s get onto the fights, and the predictions.

185lbs – Frank Inator v Jake Hurrell – Prediction: Inator by Decision

Frank Inator has good takedowns, but he started the match on the backfoot, as Jake Hurrell who is a decent boxer, went the takedown before Inator could even try to. Landing in Full Guard, Inator who has superior Jiu Jitsu to his opponent. Controlled Hurrell, and it wasn’t long before the ref stood them back up. The rest of the first round, was spent with Inator trying submission moves, however if he started losing control, jumping back into guard. Total domination by Inator in the first round. Hurrell came out in the second round firing on all cylinders, and in the first 30 seconds of the round, had worked his jabs well, to point that Inator was cut bad. The next minute was spent in close, with Hurrell continuing to land blow after blow, with both his fists and his feet. Then the unthinkable happens again. Hurrell took Inator to the mat. He escaped first a Guillotine attempt, then another. Then Inator tried to get a loose triangle in, yet failed again, which you could tell was starting to frustrate him. Then he sees a mistake by Hurrell, and actively working from the bottom, Inator gets an Armbar in place. Hurrell taps out, and from a commanding position in the second round, has found a way to lose the fight at the 4:58 mark. Predictions - 1/1

265+lbs – Josh Cutler v Saxon Hynes - Prediction: Hynes by KO

One of these fighters were going to finally get a win. Cutler is a brawler, however cuts easily. Hynes is a counter striking Blue Belt in BJJ, who is very determined. The majority of the first round is spent on the mat, with the first takedown occurring in the first minute. In the space of 2 minutes in the first round, Hynes had attempted 4 different submissions. First he tried for a Kimura, and when that failed he set up looking to work an Armbar. When that failed, he threw his legs up and attempted a triangle. That failed, then he tried it again. Once again it failed. With the seconds ticking down in the first round, Hynes started playing with his opponent. He stood up, then when he forced Cutler to stand, he shot in and took him to the mat. Once on the mat, Hynes stood up again. A certain round win to Hynes. The second round started with Cutler shooting in and trying for a clinch, but Hynes swatted him away like a fly. After a couple of missed attempts, Cutler was able to plant his feet and connect with a great Head Kick, that cut Hynes open instantly. Hynes then decided that it was time to finish this one, so he could get stitched up as soon as possible. He shot in for a takedown and lands in Half Guard. Hynes started working the body with some nice shots, then saw an exposed Head and pounced, with big shots to the head, it wasn’t long before Cutler was bleeding like a hemopheliac.Unfortunately for Cutler while trying to get into Half Guard, Hynes was able to isolate an arm, and that is all he neede to extend it beyond where it should extend to, in a nice Armbar. Cutler tapped out at the 2:33 mark of the second round, although he was never really in the fight! Predictions - 2/2

265+lbs Joe Jordan v James Roper - Prediction: Jordan by Decision

This fight was all about Jordan’s speed and decent elbows, verse Roper’s takedowns and brawling. It wasn’t soon too long after the bell that Roper caught Jordan unawares and took him down with a neat double leg. Jordan didn’t allow Roper to control from guard on top, so Roper stood up from the guard. Once both fighters were on their feet again, Roper feinted and then drove through with a takedown into guard. Roper tried for a couple of Submissions, couldn’t get them done, so decided to stand back up. After a couple of body shots, Roper unleashes with a big right hand that sent Jordan crashing to the mat. Not following it in, Roper waves Jordan back to his feet, however it wasn’t hard to tell that he was rocked, and there was blooding streaming from his head. Jordan looked up at the clock to see how long he had to last. Bad move! Roper landed a right hand from hell, dropping Jordan. Roper pounced and finished the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows at the 2:18 mark. Prediction – 2/3

170lbs – Nicholis Nabavian v Jocab Sims - Prediction: Nabavian by KO

This matchup should not have been as one-sided as it was. Nabavian controlled the fight from the get go, and even though the two early takedowns were by Sims, I felt that it was what Nabavian wanted anyway, with him controlling it once on the mat. Submission attempt after submission attempt ensued, with only one being from Sims. First round won by Nabavian. Sims attempted to start the second round the same way sas the first, however, Nabavian was having none of it, and landed the takedown instead. Once on the mat, Nabavian went back to submission attempts and after multiple failed Kimura attempts finally got an Arm Triangle locked in. 1:46 in the second roundPrediction – 3/4

135lbs – Corey Norman v Ryan Mercer - Prediction: Norman by Submission

This was the revenge fight for Mercer, who had lost to Norman in the QFC in their previous bout. Mercer did well getting the takedown in soon after the start of the first round, then did nothing other then try and get a submission locked in for the first three minutes of the fight. Then Norman decided to repay the favour, and although didn’t get one locked in, he got enough of them in, to see the pained expression on Mercer’s face. Round two and more of the same from Mercer, so once again Norman repaid him with submission attempts in return, and with more conviction. And the third round, and all Mercer did was sub attempt after sub attempt. Even though he wasn’t good enough to lock one in, he did enough to convince the judges with a 29:28 Unanimous Decision. Prediction – 3/5

205lbs – Bubby Brown v Bill Hanrahan - Prediction: Brown by KO

Hanrahan started out hard, but Brown completely dominated. Brown really did control this fight from start to finish, and every real opportunity he had, he went for a submission. The fight however went the distance, with both fighters leaving everything on the mat, but the Judges gave a Unanimous decision 20:27 to Bubby Brown. Prediction – 4/6

265+lbs – Paddy Cheechoo v Ben Hannant - Prediction: Hannant by KO

Where the last fight had been very one-sided, this one was the total opposite with both fighters having more than one opportunity to win the fight. Hannant started out hard, getting into Clinch to work on the inside, however Cheechoo countered and broke the clinch. This continued for the first couple of minutes. Then Hannant was able to stay in clinch and work the body of his opponent. Hannant definitely won Round one. The second round started with Cheechoo shotting in and taking Hannant to the mat. Hannant worked hard while on the mat for a submission. First an armbar, then a kimura but neither were successful. Then Cheechoo landed a big shot which shook Hannant, and allowed Cheechoo enough time to attempt a forearm choke. It was never going to do much, however, the quickness of the transition to it, certain woke Hannant up to the speed of his opposition. Hannant went for one last kimura but as he started to lock it in, the bell for the end of the round went. Second Round Cheechoo, and both fighters knowing they have to win the last round to win the fight. The third round started with both fighters throwing haymakers that missed. Then Hannant followed his up with a clinch, and then a takedown into guard. A triangle attempt by Hannant fails, so decided to go to defensive guard to avoid strikes from Cheechoo. A couple of elbows from Cheechoo, but Hannant isn’t letting him control from the top, and the ref had no choice but to stand them back up. The last two minutes are spent with both fighters being countered with every move, and neither being able to connect with a takedown. However at the end of the fight, the Judges score it a Unanimous victory 29:28 to Hannant Prediction – 5/7

205lbs – Jesse James v Wilson Borges - Prediction: James by Submission

As the bell rang for the start of the fight James keeps to the outside, and tried with body shots, only to miss. His follow up takedown went astray as well, however Borges countered it with his own takedown, that allowed him to advance to Full Mount straight away. Borges then proceeded with the hammerfists from mount, which cut James open. Borges then followed up with body shots, followed by a shot to the exposed head of James. Then the controversy of the fight occurred with Borges landing anelbow, that was bordering on illegal, however was let go with a warning from the ref. Borges then continued the combo, body shot, head shot, body shot, head shot, James cut kept opening up further and further. For a third time the cut was opened up further, and the ref called the doctor in to investigate, who stopped the fight at the 1:20 mark of the first round. Prediction – 5/8

145lbs – Tyrone Doherty v Brett Dongalletta - Prediction: Dongalletta by Decision

Doherty came out strong at the start of the match, clinching and working well on the inside. With Dongalletta trying for a takedown, and Doherty fully aware of the situation, it was only a matter of time, before Doherty connected with a good hit. When the head jab came it split Dongalletta open like a banana skin, however Dongalletta was able to continue through and get the takedown. From there it was submission attempt after submission attempt, after submission attempt. After the ref stood the fight back up, Doherty drove through for a takedown into side control. Dongalletta defended well, and most shots were not contacting. Dongalletta may have won the round, but he was cut badly. Doherty started the second round with a great jab that stopped Dongalletta in his tracks. Doherty followed it up with a takedown into guard, however Dongalletta switched it beautifully, and got into Full Mount. From there Dongalletta went back to his break and butter, with 6 failed Submission attempts, before he gets to Doherty’s back, and slides the arm under the chin, and gets the Rear Naked Choke locked in. At 3:59 in the second round, Doherty tapped out. Prediction – 6/9

145+lbs – Shaun Montague v Ben Doon - Prediction: Montague by Decision

This fight was so one-sided the fans started to feel sorry for Ben Doon. At no stage did he ever look like winning, and the fans were cheering him on, just to get past the first round. Get past he did, however well beaten. He refused to lie down, and made the judges give out the Unanimous Decision to Montague 30:27. He may have lost badly, but he showed a lot of spirit, to not give up. Prediction – 6/10

The 700 fans that attended and sold out Paddy O’Malley’s walked away with good food and drink in their bellies, great merchandise purchased from the stalls that ZonE Clothing had setup, and extremely happy with the fights that they witnessed. A great nights entertainment, as Canberra Cage Fighter says farewell to Paddy O’Malleys as a venue, as the events they are holding, are continually selling out

With a great first round of the Capital Carnage 205lbs Tournament, we move on to Round Two, with the remaining eight fighters battling it out. This is another Event that our great sponsor ZonE Clothing is supporting, and will be selling Merchandise at the venue.

Round One results:

Mike Tyrell KO Bubby Brown in the first round with some great punches.

Josh McGuire and Nathan Corbett went the full three round, before the Judges gave the win to Josh

Jaxon Bailey couldn’t finish off William Wild Bill, and left it to the judges to award him the win

Eric Draven decimated Rhys Sullivan before the referee stepped in and stopped the fight

Gil Gilbert locked in a nice Kimura to beat Sovann Seng in the first round

Jordan Jackson was being destroyed by Corey Parker, until he worked an Armbar in the third round

Errol Flynn’s experience showed when he beat Roman the Raptor with a good Americana

Kevin Kelly continued his winning ways with an Armbar on Billy Santanu in the first round

So now they have to back it up again this Sunday night, with a couple of the fighters carrying some niggly injuries, will they be able to recover in time.

The Round Two fights will consist of:

Mike Tyrell v Gil Gilbert

Josh McGuire v Eric Draven

Jaxon Bailey v Jordan Jackson

Errol Flynn v Kevin Kelly

The word on the street is that Josh McGuire will be touch and go whether he will be fully recovered from injuries sustained again Nathan Corbett, and if he plans to fight, he may have to hide the pain he will be in, otherwise Eric Draven will definitely target the weakness.

Also on the card, we have the long anticipated 135lbs Title fight between the champ, Ray Richardson, and the Journeyman Bruno Malfacine. Bruno started out with Phoenix Rising in Tokyo, winning the 135lbs title at Phoenix 25 in July 2011. With the organization closing down he moved to The Empire where he had two fights for two wins, before another organization closed down around him. From there he moved here to Sydney, and joined Triumph United (ACME) where he won the 135lbs title, then lost it. Not long after he lost the title, it was announced that Triumph would be shutting up shop. As an organization owner, I am starting to wonder if maybe he causes the closures, but I am looking forward to the fight.

With the large crowd attendance, we have moved venues, and all further Tournament rounds will be held at The Underground – Sydney. So jump online and buy tickets before they are all sold out, and I will see you there

Journalist from "Sydney's Fight Time" caught Ryan during his training camp in Sydney Elite Fitness, to ask him few questions

Journalist: We are here with Ryan "The Young God" Mercer, who is schedule to fight Mike Valentine, August 8th on Midweek Mayhem 6. First, what do you think about that matchup?

Mercer: I like it. Last time I fought tough guy, now it's same thing. And I like it. Im not looking for easy fights, like some punkass that I fought on Midweek Mayhem 2. For sure Im not Warrorck Warner, who came to Professional MMA to fight for title in his first bout, then took easiest fight possible - whoop someone's ass, then he lost to me, after it defeated dude that I beat as well...and with 2-1 in his las three fights he end up with title shot. He get his ass whooped again in title fight, and now - guess what. Yeah. He took easiest fight possible. If that's his style, I don't blame him. I have one thing to say to him - Don't be scared, homie!

Journalist: You was very verbal about your fight with Warrock, saying that he cheated to avoid tapping out, that judges gave him that fight...what's going on?

Mercer: What's going on? It's simple. That punk cheated his way out of my Kimura, that I had locked in on him. Then I whooped his ass for 15 minutes...and one more question for you. Guess what happened. Yup. Correctly. He won that fight. If he really wants to build up his record no matter what - dude, go the hell to amateur leagues. There you can do whatever you want. But here, where Pro fighters fights...Not really. I lost my debut to Corey. Gratz to him, I've made mistake, he used that - he won. Nothing to complain, I fought him again and I was able to defeat him. He is tough. Trent Fuller is tough. His strikes are no joke. But again, I've beat him. Im 3-1 right now, not freakin 2-2.

Journalist: Why you didn't ask for rematch with Warner? If you are sure about the outcome of last fight, and you are sure you can beat him...then why not going against him again?

Mercer: Politics. Warner just fought for title, so he is self-proclaimed "Elite" of this division. I have to work my way to his ass again. You know what that means? He don't wanna fight me. He knows he lost last time, and judges saved his momentum. He don't wanna be anywhere near to me, especially not in CCF cage. He is just little scared homie. If he thinks im talkin shit on him, If he thinks he can beat me - come on, let's do this! I will take all of this back if he can beat me.

Journalist: Any words on your upcoming fight?

Mercer: Mike is great striker, and his hands are lethal. That's what I know. They ain't pillows, like Warner's hands, so this time it will be test of my skills to avoid his strikes and defend against them. And I know I can. Maybe Im not bulletproof, but I can take a punch. I will do what I can to win that one as well.

Journalist: Any last comments?

Mercer: Not really. Warner is to scared to say anything about me, so I will not waste my time on that punkass-scared-homie. If he wants to avoid me, he will. I don't care, with that kind of stuff, he is jut proving how scared he is. So, no. Nothing more. Thanks for talk, now I gotta go back to training.

Journalist: Sure, good luck against Mike.
