and Alvarez counters with a series of strikes. Hammer will be more careful next time no doubt.
Hammer misses with a right hand
and Alvarez counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Justin Hammer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Hammer.
It looked like Alvarez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Hammer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Alvarez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hammer.
Alvarez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

and Alvarez cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Alvarez cracks Hammer with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Alvarez appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.
Alvarez loads up on a big right hand but Hammer slips the punch.
Alvarez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Hammer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hammer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Alvarez is fending him off so far but Hammer persists. Nope, Alvarez circles away and we're back to standing.
Alvarez throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Hammer's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Alvarez dives in looking to finish as Hammer flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Alvarez's strikes! Alvarez is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Hammer's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Hammer was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jackson Alvarez!
A very excited looking Jackson Alvarez made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.

Hammer has hold of The Kidd's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! The Kidd tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hammer cranks the arm and The Kidd screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from The Kidd, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

After the fight, Justin Hammer was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

Hammer manages to get his head free but now Soares has transitioned to an armbar! Hammer grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Soares! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
