Face shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Core's guard.
Core is trying to keep Face in close.
Core is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Face is working Core over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A pretty intense looking Knife Face took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.

Spindley wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Spindley has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Core drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Spindley gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Smith wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Core's closed guard. He's half up but Core has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Core pivots and extends the arm, Smith falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Core! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). David Core!
After the fight, David Core was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.

David Core seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horrible takedown attempt by Core or perhaps it was just good defense by Somebody, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Core. That's going to take a lot out of him.
