Motts closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Romeo to the mat! Romeo manages to get full guard.
Romeo keeping moving, preventing Motts from controlling successfully.
Romeo has control of Motts's left arm, preventing Motts from doing any damage.
Motts pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Romeo is keeping the position for now.
Romeo is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Motts passes Romeo's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Motts is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Romeo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Motts.

Romeo felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Motts is looking to take a break and control but Romeo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. #ES2#

Motts changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Romeo looks to throw the jab but Motts is out of range.
A quick step to the side and Motts tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Romeo throws a hook to the side of Motts's head but Motts sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Romeo lands a lovely overhand right.
Romeo pounces like a tiger and cracks Motts with a vicious hook! Motts is down but not out! Romeo follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
