PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Daaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Barnabus McKraken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Daaz comes into the arena with Meshuggah - Mind's Mirror blaring out of the sound system. McKraken has chosen War as his entrance music. Nick Daaz has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nick Daaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Barnabus McKraken!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McKraken throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
McKraken misses with a jab, cross combination.
McKraken waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Daaz.
McKraken misses with a few strikes there.
McKraken just misses with a punch to the body.
Daaz throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McKraken walks into a stiff left hand from Daaz.
Barnabus McKraken seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Daaz tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but McKraken was well out of range. Poor timing from Daaz.
McKraken avoids a punch combination nicely.
Daaz misses with a two punch combination.
Good shot there by McKraken.
Daaz slips under a jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by McKraken.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daaz managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by McKraken.

McKraken looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

McKraken is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Daaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

McKraken tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no McKraken has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Daaz is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, McKraken asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Daaz is looking for a sweep.
Daaz stops McKraken from passing to mount.
Daaz is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on McKraken's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
McKraken is taking a breather. Daaz says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Daaz is staying active underneath McKraken, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

McKraken seems to be working for a kimura but Daaz defends the submission attempt.
McKraken seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Daaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

McKraken looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

McKraken seems to be working for a kimura but Daaz defends the submission attempt.
McKraken looks gassed!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McKraken is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Daaz sees it coming and defends easily.

McKraken is looking for a kimura here.

McKraken is trying to work for a kimura but Daaz is defending well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McKraken moves forwards but Daaz connects with a nice, crisp jab.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Daaz misses with a combination

and McKraken counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
McKraken is looking to take a break and control but Daaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
McKraken is thwarting Daaz's attempts to control the position.

McKraken is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Daaz doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time McKraken.
Daaz is looking to improve his position.
McKraken looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Barnabus McKraken dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Daaz throws a series of punches but McKraken moves out of range.
McKraken pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McKraken shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Daaz pinned against the cage. Daaz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McKraken misses with a few strikes there.
McKraken throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
McKraken dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Daaz walks into a jab.
McKraken swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Daaz counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
McKraken closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
McKraken thows a body shot but no joy.
McKraken throws a sloppy body shot
and Daaz counters with a lovely straight right hand!
McKraken is breathing heavily.
Daaz scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A swing and a miss from McKraken.
McKraken slips a jab and a cross from Daaz.
Daaz throws a good cross that connects.


It looks like Barnabus McKraken has been cut.
McKraken looks to land a left hand but Daaz moved out of range nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Daaz connects with a body shot.
Daaz throws a shot from downtown. McKraken moves away and avoids it.
Daaz lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Daaz lands a hook that stumbles McKraken back into the cage. Daaz follows up with a straight and another hook that land right on the button, dropping McKraken to the canvas! Daaz pounces and lands several unanswered shots - McKraken has had enough and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Nick Daaz!
