Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Matt Carpenter (ranked 3696 p4p, 199 weight class) and Julius Johnson (ranked 2209 p4p, 129 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julius Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Roberts and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter throws out a loose jab but Johnson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Carpenter misses with a lunging right hand
and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
A shot to the body from Johnson misses
and Carpenter counters with a straight right hand.
Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Carpenter misses with a few strikes there.
Johnson misses with a straight left.
It looked like Carpenter wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Johnson counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Matt Carpenter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Johnson slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

and Carpenter takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Carpenter throws a body punch but Johnson moves out of range.
Carpenter loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch.

Carpenter rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Johnson counters with a one-two to the body.
Johnson keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Carpenter misses with a hook.
Carpenter tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Carpenter fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Carpenter looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Carpenter closes the distance and clinches.
Johnson looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Carpenter misses with the head strike.

Johnson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Carpenter uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Johnson.
A counter left hand to the body from Carpenter misses its target.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Johnson misses with a hook
and Carpenter counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Carpenter scores with a shot to the body.
Carpenter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Johnson walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

and Johnson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Carpenter throws a right hand that misses
and Johnson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Johnson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Carpenter.
Carpenter's jab looks to have found its range, popping Johnson under the eye.
Johnson with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Carpenter to score with a decent uppercut.

Johnson is rocked!

Carpenter cracks Johnson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Carpenter finish him?
Carpenter circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Johnson to the canvas! Johnson doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Carpenter keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Matt Carpenter!
