PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ding Dong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Bridges (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bridges comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Jay-Z - Moment Of Clarity kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Ding Dong has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ding Dong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Chris Bridges!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bridges misses with a head kick.
Dong looks for a takedown but Bridges sprawls well.
Bridges fails with the takedown.
A head kick misses from Bridges.
Bridges tries to close the distance and clinch but Dong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Dong tries for a takedown but Bridges circles away easily

and Bridges moves into the clinch.
Bridges wants to break the clinch but can't.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Bridges.
Bridges softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Dong drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Bridges gets the underhooks and prevents it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ding Dong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Dong drops down looking for an ankle pick but Bridges pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bridges throws a sloppy head kick and Dong moves out of range easily.
Bridges misses with the combination.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Dong.

Bridges drives through with a takedown into guard.

Dong looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bridges wants to stand but Dong has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Bridges wants to pass the guard but Dong is keeping the position.

Dong throws his legs up looking for a submission but Bridges uses it to pass to side control.
Bridges wants to lay and pray for a moment but Dong keeps working.

Bridges tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Bridges looks gassed!
Dong is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Bridges is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dong regains half guard.
Dong is trying to get back to full guard.

Bridges gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Dong shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Dong was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Dong stands up from mount. Strange move.
Dong fails in his attempt to clinch.

A head kick misses from Bridges.
Dong has his takedown stuffed

and Bridges counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bridges.
Dong scores with a shot to the side of Bridges's head.
Dong looking for a takedown.
Bridges is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Bridges pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Bridges gets a takedown into half guard.
Bridges tries to stand and escape but Dong is controlling the position.
Dong is trying to stand up here but Bridges is controlling him well.
Bridges works his way into side control.
Dong tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Bridges tries for a kimura but Dong is defending well.
Dong manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Dong is refusing to be controlled, as Bridges sits in half guard.
Bridges might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dong kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Dong regains full guard. Nicely done.
Bridges must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Dong is looking for a triangle but Bridges pushes his legs off easily.
Dong is trying to control the position from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Chris Bridges will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dong blocks a head kick by Bridges.
Dong doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Bridges counters with a big head kick but Dong shrugs it off.
Bridges tries to close the distance and clinch but Dong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Bridges wants to clinch.
Ding Dong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dong swats away the attempt to clinch by Bridges.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dong closes the distance and clinches.
Bridges is breathing heavily.

Bridges gets underhooks to prevent Dong's takedown attempt.

Bridges with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Dong to score with a decent uppercut.

Bridges will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Bridges counters with a nice low kick that buckles Dong's knee momentarily.

Dong connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Bridges wriggles free and stands up.

Dong shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Bridges's guard.

Bridges scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Dong fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Bridges with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Dong misses with a takedown attempt - Bridges sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bridges throws a one two combo.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bridges closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dong regains half guard.
Dong slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Dong keeping full guard, as Bridges tries to pass.

Dong looking for a guillotine here but Bridges defends easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dong working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bridges doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bridges manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Dong looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Bridges gets to his feet - Dong follows without any prompting.

Dong gets a takedown into half guard.

Dong is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Bridges doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Dong.

Bridges wants to get back to full guard.
Ding Dong overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Dong is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Bridges is trying to stand up here but Dong is controlling him well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Ding Dong will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

and Bridges counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dong's guard now.

Dong wants to sweep but no luck.

Bridges decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Dong, up you get!

Bridges shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Dong's guard.

Dong lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bridges!

Dong throws a combination. Bridges tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Bridges is looking to slow Dong down with leg kicks.
Bridges throws a solid leg kick but Dong takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Bridges.
Dong tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bridges swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Bridges gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bridges wants to stand but Dong is controlling the position.

Dong gets to his feet - Bridges follows without any prompting.
Bridges throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Dong's head.
Dong fails with the takedown
and Bridges counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Dong is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Dong misses with a takedown attempt - Bridges sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ding Dong. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bridges closes this distance looking for a takedown but Dong circles away.
Dong is looking to clinch but Bridges is avoiding it.
Bridges fails to land with a series of punches.

Nice takedown defense from Bridges. No joy for Dong on that attempt.
Bridges throws a nice looking combination but Dong bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Dong counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Bridges!

Dong looking to secure an arm triangle but Bridges defends it well.

Dong swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Bridges is now in Dong's guard. A big mistake from Dong there, giving up the dominant position!
Dong is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Bridges dives into side control.
Dong tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Bridges wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Bridges has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Dong tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Bridges swivels and escapes.
Bridges throws a sloppy head kick

and Dong counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Dong is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Bridges is trying to get back to full guard.
Dong trying to control from half guard but Bridges is working away.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Dong is working for a kimura but Bridges is defending it quite comfortably.
Bridges keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ding Dong.
I think Dong has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
