Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rory Rothstein (ranked 24166 p4p, 441 weight class) and Lee Jun Fan (ranked 24930 p4p, 445 weight class). Lee Jun Fan has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rory Rothstein!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lee Jun Fan!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jun Fan throws a head kick but Rothstein moves out of range.
Jun Fan throws a nice inside leg kick.
A slapping leg kick lands for Jun Fan.
Rothstein looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jun Fan is fending him off so far but Rothstein persists. Nope, Jun Fan circles away and we're back to standing.
Jun Fan throws a head kick but Rothstein moves out of range.
Rothstein tries for a takedown but Jun Fan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Jun Fan is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Jun Fan throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Jun Fan closes the distance looking to clinch

and Rothstein counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jun Fan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Rothstein really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Rothstein is trying to work for a kimura but Jun Fan is defending well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rothstein seems to be looking for submissions.
Rothstein will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Jun Fan regains full guard. Nicely done.
Jun Fan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rothstein. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Rothstein won't allow Jun Fan to sweep him here.

Rothstein drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rothstein jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rothstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jun Fan controls Rothstein momentarily but Rothstein frees himself.

Rothstein drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jun Fan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rothstein has Jun Fan in his guard.

Rothstein looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jun Fan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Jun Fan is in close to Rothstein's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Rothstein working for a triangle but Jun Fan defends it easily.
Rothstein tries to strike from the bottom.

Rothstein is looking for a triangle but Jun Fan pushes his legs off easily.

Rothstein looking for a guillotine here but Jun Fan defends easily.

Jun Fan trying to control the position from guard on top but Rothstein is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Jun Fan wants to stand and escape but instead Rothstein has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Rothstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Jun Fan is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Rothstein won't allow Jun Fan to sweep him here.

Rothstein is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Jun Fan trying to control the position.

Rothstein drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rothstein jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rothstein is pushing down on Jun Fan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jun Fan is fighting to maintain full guard but Rothstein has managed to sneak the leg through.

Rothstein is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jun Fan sees it coming and defends easily.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jun Fan wants to get back to full guard.
Rothstein prevents Jun Fan from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rory Rothstein will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jun Fan is looking to clinch.
Jun Fan fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Rothstein takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Rory Rothstein has been cut.
Jun Fan moves to clinch but Rothstein breaks away

and Rothstein counters with a shoot takedown. Jun Fan fights it but they end up in guard.

Rothstein thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Rothstein drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Jun Fan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rothstein has Jun Fan in his guard.

Jun Fan must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rothstein has his foot on Jun Fan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jun Fan works his way back into a safe position though.

Rory Rothstein overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jun Fan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Rothstein has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jun Fan can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Jun Fan content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Rothstein has locked up a guillotine! Rothstein's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Jun Fan is holding on here and Rothstein must be using up a lot of energy. Jun Fan has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Rothstein gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
