And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Spencer!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spencer throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Vergys changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
A left lands for Spencer.
Vergys fails with a takedown attempt.
Spencer looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Mark Spencer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Spencer connects with a jab.
Vergys has a takedown stuffed.
A swing and a miss from Spencer.
Vergys feinted with a counter takedown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Spencer connects with a nice looking jab.
Spencer scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Vergys doesn't seem bothered though.

Vergys fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Spencer avoids it really well and circles away.
Spencer throws out a counter right but Vergys avoids it with no problem.

Vergys shoots in for a takedown but Spencer shows good takedown defense.

Vergys attempts a counter takedown but Spencer avoids it well and moves away.

Vergys appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Vergys closes the distance and clinches up with Spencer, looking for a takedown. Vergys pushes Spencer against the cage but Spencer circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
A nice side step and Spencer releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Vergys shoots in for a takedown but Spencer shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Vergys looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

Spencer defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Vergys.
Spencer scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Spencer looks to land a left hand but Vergys moved out of range nicely.

Spencer is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Vergys had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

A decent looking cross lands there for Spencer.
We've been informed that Spencer has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

A punch lands to the side of Vergys 's head but he takes it in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

and Vergys counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Spencer!
We've been hearing good reports from Vergys's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Vergys looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vergys wants to control but Spencer is keeping him busy.

Vergys is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Spencer is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Spencer pushes Vergys away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Vergys gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Vergys is trying to get an arm triangle but Spencer is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Spencer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Spencer is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Vergys asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Vergys tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vergys has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Spencer has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Vergys is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Spencer has escaped the position, nice work there.

Vergys has an Americana. Spencer didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Vergys is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Vergys hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
