PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Rodrigo Batista (ranked 4534 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Emelyanov (ranked 3863 p4p, 0 weight class). Batista has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The key to victory for Rodrigo Batista has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rodrigo Batista!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vladimir Emelyanov!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Emelyanov misses with a jab, cross combination.
Emelyanov wants to clinch up but Batista keeps it at a distance.
Emelyanov wants to clinch.
Emelyanov looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Batista looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Batista fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sloppy strikes from Emelyanov. Those never looked like landing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Emelyanov closes this distance looking for a takedown but Batista circles away.
Batista dives in for a single leg takedown but Emelyanov sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Batista is breathing heavily.
Batista moves in looking to clinch but Emelyanov pushes him off.
Batista sets himself, and Emelyanov steps forward looking for the clinch! Batista avoids it this time.
Batista stuffs the takedown attempt from Emelyanov. Emelyanov gets slowly back to his feet.
Rodrigo Batista has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vladimir Emelyanov.

Emelyanov shoots in looking for a takedown but Batista manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Emelyanov's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Batista stuffs the takedown.
Batista throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The fight stays on the outside here - Batista looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Batista really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Emelyanov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Batista defends well and Emelyanov ends up having to push Batista into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Emelyanov misses with a head kick.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Batista can't break the clinch.
Emelyanov tries to pull guard but Batista forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Batista tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Emelyanov tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Come on Batista - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.

Emelyanov jumps guard and drags Batista to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Batista won't allow Emelyanov to sweep him here.

Emelyanov manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Emelyanov is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Batista gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Emelyanov with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Batista stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Emelyanov breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Batista jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Emelyanov lands a front kick.
Batista throws a looping overhand right but Emelyanov ducks down to avoid it.
Emelyanov tries to counter with a clinch but Batista shakes him off and moves away.
Batista has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Emelyanov.
Emelyanov goes for a double leg but Batista avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Batista continues to drive forward.
Emelyanov shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Batista pinned against the cage. Batista gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Batista tries to close the distance and clinch up but Emelyanov swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Batista is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
No luck for Emelyanov with that takedown attempt.
Batista shoots in looking for a takedown. Emelyanov tries to sprawl out of it but Batista keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Emelyanov manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Emelyanov steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Batista.
Emelyanov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Batista is fending him off so far but Emelyanov persists. Nope, Batista circles away and we're back to standing.
Batista tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Emelyanov defends well and Batista ends up having to push Emelyanov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Emelyanov tries a head kick but it misses.

Batista has Emelyanov up against the cage in a clinch.
Batista wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Vladimir Emelyanov dominated that round.

Emelyanov is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Emelyanov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Batista can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Batista has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Emelyanov is proving hard to escape from.

Emelyanov is looking to cinch up a triangle. Batista throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Emelyanov's body to avoid the submission. Emelyanov has instead reached around Batista's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Emelyanov arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Vladimir Emelyanov!
