Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Felix Chase (ranked 5916 p4p, 515 weight class) and Gena Lap (ranked 23536 p4p, 585 weight class). Chase 's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Holy Diver. Gena Lap acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Felix Chase !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gena Lap!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chase looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lap is fending him off so far but Chase persists. Nope, Lap circles away and we're back to standing.

Chase scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Chase is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lap knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Chase is trying to get an arm triangle but Lap is defending well.

Chase thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Chase looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Chase tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Chase has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Chase throws an elbow but Lap slips to the side and avoids it well.

Chase working the ground and pound from side control.

Chase wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lap, who protects the arm well.

The ground and pound from Chase seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
We've been hearing that Chase has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Lap is looking for a sweep.
Lap is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Chase asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Chase wants to lay and pray for a moment but Lap keeps working.
Chase lands an elbow.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chase thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Chase working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Lap is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Chase has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Chase tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Chase scores with a couple of short elbows.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Chase stuffs the takedown.
Felix Chase is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Chase swats away the attempt to clinch by Lap.
Chase looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lap is fending him off so far but Chase persists. Nope, Lap circles away and we're back to standing.
Chase shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lap pinned against the cage. Lap gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lap tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chase swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Felix Chase . That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chase closes the distance and clinches up with Lap, looking for a takedown. Chase pushes Lap against the cage but Lap circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Felix Chase seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice takedown defense from Chase . No joy for Lap on that attempt.

Lap fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Lap tries to pull guard but Chase holds him up against the cage and eventually Lap drops back down to his feet.
Chase is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lap can do to turn this around?
Lap is breathing heavily.
Chase blocks an elbow strike.

Chase gets control of Lap's arms and successfully pulls guard. Chase will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Felix Chase overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Lap wants to pass the guard but Chase is keeping the position.
Lap must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Chase throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Chase pulls Lap in close to his closed guard and prevents Lap from doing any damage or advancing position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Lap decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Chase , up you get!

Chase feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Chase thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chase drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chase jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chase drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lap looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lap looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lap!

Chase gets back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felix Chase dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Chase fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Lap to the ground. Chase is now in Lap's guard.

Chase drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chase jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Lap wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Chase is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Chase stands up over Lap, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Chase with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Lap takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Chase chips away with some ground and pound.

Lap is trying to keep Chase in close.

Chase sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lap's guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Chase connects with a nice short shot to Lap's temple.

Chase is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lap doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Chase .

Chase is working for a submission of some sort.

Chase seems to be looking for submissions.

Chase is looking for a kimura but Lap is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chase to get the leverage.
Lap tries to roll over but Chase keeps him under control.

Chase is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Lap sees it coming and defends easily.

Lap is defending against the submission attempts here by Chase .
Chase looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Lap with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gena Lap has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Felix Chase is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Lap is in trouble now - Chase has advanced to mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
Felix Chase showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chase , winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
