Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carl Sweetchuck (ranked 1445 p4p, 189 weight class) and Guido Turturro (ranked 569 p4p, 73 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Sweetchuck might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Police Academy. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Guido Turturro seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Turturro instigates a clinch.
Sweetchuck pushes Turturro back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

We've been hearing good reports from Sweetchuck's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sweetchuck tries to pass the half guard into mount. Turturro knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Turturro is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Sweetchuck pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sweetchuck not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Turturro throws his legs up looking for a submission but Sweetchuck uses it to pass to side control.
Turturro tries to control but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sweetchuck takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Turturro bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Sweetchuck's head backwards.
Sweetchuck jabs Turturro right on the nose. Turturro blinks but takes it well.
Turturro is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Turturro avoids a punch combination nicely.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Turturro looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Sweetchuck has picked Turturro up and slammed him! Turturro can't keep hold of the triangle and Sweetchuck manages to pass to side control!

Sweetchuck tries to advance to mount but Turturro denies him.

Sweetchuck has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Turturro!

Turturro is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Turturro drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sweetchuck manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Turturro has Sweetchuck in his guard.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sweetchuck lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Turturro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sweetchuck gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Turturro has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Sweetchuck. Oh but Turturro has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Sweetchuck goes limp - he's gone! Turturro jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!
