PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Curtis Jackson (ranked 4524 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tom Guns (ranked 4652 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Curtis Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Tom Guns!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Santiago Holmes and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guns shoots in looking for a takedown but Jackson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Guns's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Jackson is looking to counter punch.
Curtis Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guns fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jackson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jackson shoots in but Guns avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Jackson is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Guns shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Jackson's guard.
Guns stays in close to Jackson's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guns passes Jackson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guns throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Guns postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Jackson to stand up.
Jackson shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Guns eats them both and turns towards Jackson to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.


It looks like Tom Guns has been cut.
Guns fails with the takedown.
A jab from Jackson finds it's way through Guns's defenses.

Guns shoots in and bounces Jackson off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Guns with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Guns is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Guns preventing the sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Guns controls from within his opponent's guard.
Jackson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Guns on the ground.
It looks like Guns might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Guns preventing the sweep.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Jackson gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Guns to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jackson is breathing heavily.
Guns sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Jackson's guard.
Well, if Guns is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Jackson is defending against the submission attempts here by Guns.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guns blocks the strikes from Jackson.
Guns uses his free foot to push down on Jackson's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jackson.
Jackson tries to lock up and control but Guns gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Guns controlling the position easily from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Guns dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tom Guns's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Guns darts in and clinches Jackson up against the cage.

Guns tightens his grip and picks Jackson up, before dumping him to the ground. Jackson manages to land in guard.
Guns seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Guns should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Guns has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Guns's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Tom Guns has got the better of the ground game so far.

Guns gets to his feet. Jackson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Guns takes a swing at Jackson's ribcage but misses.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Guns pushes Jackson up against the cage in a clinch.

Guns has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Jackson clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Jackson tries to break free.
Guns doesn't have the hooks in and Jackson manages to turn into his guard.

Guns working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jackson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jackson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Guns is looking for a triangle but Jackson pushes his legs off easily.

Jackson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Guns, up you get!
Jackson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Guns has taken the fight to the clinch.
Guns is struggling to control the position.
Guns is struggling to control the position.

Guns drags the fight down to the ground.
Guns trying to strike off his back.
Guns tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jackson has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Guns is proving hard to escape from.
Guns lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guns trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Guns slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Guns tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Guns creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tom Guns showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Guns takes the fight into the clinch.

Guns jumps guard and drags Jackson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Guns pulls Jackson in close to prevent any damage.
Jackson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Guns is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Guns trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Guns has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guns keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.

Guns pushes a forearm under Jackson's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Jackson is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
