PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Justin Samuelson (ranked 4665 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jethro Brady (ranked 7178 p4p, 0 weight class). Jethro Brady told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Samuelson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jethro Brady!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Lou da Vinci and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Samuelson gets a takedown into half guard.
Samuelson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brady with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Samuelson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Samuelson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Samuelson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Samuelson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brady's guard.
Samuelson is standing up over Brady. Brady looks to escape but Samuelson dives into side control.

A lull in the action here.

Samuelson stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Brady is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Samuelson decides to stand and escape the position.

Samuelson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Samuelson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Samuelson lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Samuelson's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Brady gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Samuelson controlling from the top position.
Brady is trying to control the position but Samuelson postures up.
Samuelson scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Samuelson stands up and beckons Brady to his feet.

Samuelson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Brady was covering up waiting for the punch and Samuelson finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Samuelson passes Brady's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Samuelson looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Samuelson is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Samuelson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Samuelson is looking to advance position but Brady won't allow it.
Samuelson works his way into side control.
Samuelson moves into full mount!

Samuelson has control of Brady's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Brady regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Samuelson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Brady can do to turn this around?
Brady tries to lock up and control but Samuelson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Samuelson is stinking the place up with his stalling.

Brady defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Samuelson.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Brady is bucking up trying to escape but Samuelson cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Samuelson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Brady is trying to get back to half guard.

Samuelson tries for a kimura but Brady is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Samuelson takes a little break here. Brady wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Samuelson advances nicely into full mount.
Brady takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Samuelson content just to control the position here.
Samuelson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Brady for as long as he can get away with.

Samuelson is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Brady to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Brady shrugs it off.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Brady is wriggling around trying to escape.
Brady takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Samuelson has hold of Brady's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Brady manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Samuelson is landing with some decent strikes but Brady is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Samuelson is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Samuelson throws a sloppy head kick and Brady moves out of range easily.

Samuelson is pushing down on Brady's leg trying to pass to half guard. Brady is fighting to maintain full guard but Samuelson has managed to sneak the leg through.

Well Samuelson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
