PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Freddy Jones (ranked 5165 p4p, 456 weight class) and Kure Takenao (ranked 4478 p4p, 429 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Can't be touched. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Freddy Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Kure Takenao!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Eddie Farnsworth and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones misses with a hook.
Jones goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
And Takenao tries to counter it with a takedown but Jones pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Takenao.

Takenao throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Jones was covering up waiting for the punch and Takenao finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Takenao from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Takenao is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Jones is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at 3Band MMA ($800/week) that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Jones wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Takenao stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Takenao drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Takenao jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Takenao trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Takenao is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Jones seems keen to control Takenao's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Takenao tries to score a power double leg takedown but Jones sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Takenao somewhat.
Jones throws the kick towards the body but Takenao avoids it.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Takenao moves out of range easily.
Takenao doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Jones tries to score with a low kick but Takenao moves his leg out of the way.
Takenao is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
A jab from Jones finds it's way through Takenao's defenses.
Takenao throws a leg kick
and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Freddy Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones moves into the clinch successfully.
Takenao fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jones putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Takenao in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Takenao is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Freddy Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kure Takenao.
Jones prevents the takedown attempt.
Jones presses Takenao against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Takenao fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Takenao takes an elbow to the temple.


It looks like Kure Takenao has been cut.
Jones displaying some good clinch control by pressing Takenao up against the cage.
Takenao jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Jones walks away with a smile on his face. Takenao gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Takenao has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Jones finds it's way round the side to connect with Takenao's head.
Jones with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Jones throws a right and a left that Takenao avoids nicely.

Takenao closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Takenao has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at London MMA Club. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Takenao takes a little break here. Jones wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Takenao tries to advance to mount but Jones denies him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Takenao goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Jones rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Takenao's guard! Nice work there by Jones!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Freddy Jones dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Kure Takenao's cut.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Jones has managed to clinch.

Takenao breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones throws a right and a left that both miss.
Takenao steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Jones.
Takenao misses with a body kick.
Jones stuffs the takedown attempt from Takenao. Takenao gets slowly back to his feet.
Jones staying out of range there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Takenao counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Takenao.

Takenao postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jones is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Takenao, into his guard.

Kure Takenao has got the better of the ground game so far.

Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.
Takenao avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Takenao.
Takenao is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Takenao controlling the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jones controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Takenao wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

Takenao looking for a triangle here. Jones is fighting it but it looks tight! Takenao pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Jones is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Kure Takenao!
In defeat, Freddy Jones stepped up to the mic, saying 'Was not my night tonight. I will be back, thank you all for supporting me and thanks to my opponent for taking the fight.'.
