Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darian Cruz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Ben Hemmingworth and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz takes a swing at Johnson's ribcage but misses.
Johnson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Cruz circles away quickly and effectively.

Cruz shoots in and gets a takedown into Johnson's guard.
Cruz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cruz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cruz wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position.
Cruz cracks Johnson with a solid left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cruz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Cruz is stalling in the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cruz is looking to work some ground and pound but Johnson has wrist control.
Johnson wants to stand up but Cruz is controlling him.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Johnson can do anything to dispel that myth.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cruz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Cruz stands up over Johnson, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Cruz distracts Johnson with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Cruz lands a couple of elbows.

Cruz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Cruz's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cruz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cruz's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cruz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Johnson for as long as he can get away with.

Cruz is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Hilo Hit Squad that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Cruz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Cruz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Cruz tries to bum rush Johnson with a series of wild strikes but Johnson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Johnson throws a counter combo.
Johnson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Cruz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cruz showed some decent athleticism there.

Cruz has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Johnson defend it? Cruz steps over the head and cranks it - Johnson is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Cruz!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Darian Cruz!
Darian Cruz spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
