PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Henry Curtis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billy Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Billy Hayes was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Henry Curtis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Billy Hayes!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hayes shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Hayes thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Curtis wants to sweep but no luck.

Hayes drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hayes jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Curtis is trying to keep Hayes in close.

Curtis pushes Hayes off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Hayes misses with a takedown attempt - Curtis sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Curtis looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Curtis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Curtis showed some decent athleticism there.
Hayes tries to get to full guard but Curtis has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hayes punching from the bottom.

Curtis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hayes tries to roll over but Curtis keeps him under control.

Curtis is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hayes is just riding it out for now. Curtis eventually gives up the hold.

Hayes is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Curtis pulls his head out easily.

Hayes actively working from the bottom here.
Curtis looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Curtis prevents Hayes from improving his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Curtis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hayes sees it coming and defends easily.
Curtis missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Curtis knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hayes on the ground.

Hayes looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Curtis trying to pass the guard but Hayes defending well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Curtis is trying to work for a kimura but Hayes is defending well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hayes avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hayes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Billy Hayes will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hayes shoots and misses

and Curtis decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Hayes's guard.
Hayes keeping moving, preventing Curtis from controlling successfully.
Curtis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hayes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Curtis wants to control from the top but Hayes keeps moving.

Hayes has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Curtis should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Hayes has tightened it up now! Curtis should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Billy Hayes!
