Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steven Bishop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, matheus mendes!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bishop closes the distance and clinches.
mendes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Bishop.
Bishop pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Bishop tries to clinch up but mendes circles away and keeps his distance.
mendes changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Bishop looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Bishop is trying to control mendes's posture but mendes avoids it.
Bishop gets back to half guard.
Bishop is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Bishop works his way to full guard. Good work.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as mendes accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bishop looking for submissions from the bottom but instead mendes passes into side control.
Bishop is not content to let mendes control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bishop gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

mendes trying to control from Bishop's half guard. Bishop has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
mendes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Bishop wants to stand up but mendes is controlling him.
Bishop is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bishop keeping moving, preventing mendes from controlling successfully.
mendes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bishop has his foot on mendes's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. mendes works his way back into a safe position though.
mendes wants to pass the guard but Bishop is keeping the position.
mendes wants to control from the top but Bishop keeps moving.

Bishop had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. mendes is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Bishop Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take mendes's back instead.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bishop is breathing heavily.
Bishop looking to break mendes's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. mendes remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Bishop will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Bishop is not going to allow mendes to sit and survive in this position.
mendes tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
mendes tries to hold on but Bishop pushes him away.
Bishop is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

mendes is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Bishop.
mendes moves out of range as Bishop strikes.
Bishop gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and mendes counters with a nice body kick.
mendes slips a straight right by Bishop.
mendes misses with a takedown attempt
and Bishop counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in mendes's guard now.
mendes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Bishop trying to control but mendes is working from the bottom.
Bishop sitting in guard, not really doing much.
mendes keeping moving, preventing Bishop from controlling successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bishop drops back looking for a leg! mendes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and mendes manages to kick Bishop off! Bishop jumps back into mendes's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bishop slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
mendes is looking for a sweep.
Bishop is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. mendes looks calm but he's in trouble here. Bishop gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. mendes is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Bishop lets go of the hold and mendes can pop his arm back in it's socket.
