Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Cornelius Rios (ranked 24946 p4p, 0 weight class) and Godfrey Hardy (ranked 4793 p4p, 0 weight class). Cornelius Rios has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cornelius Rios!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Godfrey Hardy!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, John Roberts and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rios uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hardy.
Rios throws a big counter combination but Hardy scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Hardy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hardy throws an off balance right hand
and Rios counters with a two punch combo.
Hardy misses with a hook. Rios ducked under it nicely.
Rios feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Hardy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rios to the mat! Rios manages to get full guard.
Hardy is looking to pass into half guard but Rios pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Rios is in guard.


Hardy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rios doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rios manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hardy isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Rios stacks Hardy on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Rios!
Hardy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hardy keeps trying to improve his position.

Rios scores with punches from side control.
Hardy looking for a sweep but Rios has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Hardy is working to get back to half guard.
Hardy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hardy regains half guard.

Hardy looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Hardy is trying to maintain the position but Rios is very close to passing his half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hardy is looking for a sweep. Rios is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Hardy looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rios connects with a nice short shot to Hardy's temple.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hardy can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rios moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Hardy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hardy manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Hardy actively working from the bottom here.

Hardy looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Hardy is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rios pulls his head out easily.
Hardy is looking to improve his position.
Rios could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hardy works his way to full guard. Good work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hardy has a closed guard, preventing Rios from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Rios is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hardy has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cornelius Rios dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Hardy misses with a jab to the body
and Rios counters with a one-two to the body.

Hardy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Hardy seems to be looking for submissions.

Hardy is working for a kimura but Rios is defending it quite comfortably.

Hardy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hardy is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hardy is just content to waste time from the top position. Rios takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Hardy drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Rios manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hardy has Rios in his guard.

Hardy is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Rios defends well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hardy has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Rios doesn't defend quickly enough and Hardy has managed to lock this one up! Can Rios escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Hardy on a fantastic submission victory.
