PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Landon Cannon (ranked 3957 p4p, 350 weight class) and Alec Burns (ranked 6516 p4p, 439 weight class). Cannon's entrance music is Freebird. A fine choice. Burns is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Alberto Del Rio theme song. Alec Burns has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Landon Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alec Burns!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Burns throws out a loose jab but Cannon uses good head movement to avoid it.
A shot to the liver by Burns. Beautiful body shot.

Burns clinches with his opponent.
Cannon jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Burns walks away with a smile on his face. Cannon gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Burns moves into the clinch successfully.
Cannon tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Burns smiles and moves away.
Cannon uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Burns.
Cannon avoids a punch combination nicely.
Alec Burns seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cannon has a takedown stuffed.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Landon Cannon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Burns clinches up with Cannon and pushes him back against the cage.
Burns looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burns escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Cannon shoots in but no luck this time.
Burns wants to clinch up but Cannon keeps it at a distance.

Burns has Cannon up against the cage in a clinch.
Cannon tries to pull guard but Burns forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Burns breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Burns throws a head kick but Cannon moves out of range.
Cannon closes this distance looking for a takedown but Burns circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Burns.
Burns lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Burns connects with a knee to the head.
Burns with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Burns lands with a light punch inside.

Cannon jumps guard.

Burns got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cannon has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Burns has managed to get both his arms back between Cannon's legs - danger averted.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Burns wants to stand but Cannon is controlling his posture from full guard.
Burns really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cannon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Cannon looking for a guillotine here but Burns defends easily.
Burns is looking to stand up but Cannon won't let him.

Burns avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Burns wants to stand but Cannon has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Burns decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Jab, jab by Burns - just one landing.

Burns moves into the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cannon tries to pull guard but Burns won't allow it.
Cannon tries to pull guard but Burns forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cannon has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Burns after a bit of a struggle.
Burns gets through Cannon's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Burns is pushing Cannon up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
A knee to the head by Burns.

Burns breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cannon stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Burns.
Burns throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Burns fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cannon.
Burns scores with a head kick. Cannon tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Cannon changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Burns tries to avoid it but Cannon manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Burns to the ground. Burns escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Burns now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Cannon needs to keep his hands up - Burns had a free shot at his head there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Burns throws a series of punches but Cannon avoids them all with ease.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Burns thows a leg kick but Cannon checks it

and Cannon counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Burns has one foot on Cannon's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Burns shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cannon eats them both and turns towards Burns to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Burns rushes Cannon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Cannon tries to pull guard but Burns forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cannon is breathing heavily.
Burns lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Burns stalling against the cage.
Cannon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cannon fails to pull guard.
Cannon tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Burns just stands there and leans against the cage.
Burns effectively controlling the action here.
Burns lands a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alec Burns dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Burns misses the jab.
Burns throws a leg kick that is checked

and Cannon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Cannon.
Cannon is standing up over Burns. Burns looks to escape but Cannon dives into side control.

Cannon prevents Burns from escaping the position.
Burns tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

Cannon looking for a guillotine from mount but Burns is having none of it.
Burns is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
Cannon wants to get back to his feet but Burns is holding on tight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cannon looking to secure an arm triangle but Burns defends it well.

Cannon has control of Burns's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Burns regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Cannon won't let Burns get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cannon looking for a guillotine from mount but Burns is having none of it.

Cannon looking to secure an arm triangle but Burns defends it well.

Burns tries to buck Cannon off so he can stand up but Cannon has got his back now - this could be big trouble! He's slapped on a rear naked choke that looks really tight! Burns falls backwards, slamming Cannon to the mat but Cannon holds on tight! Burns is forced to tap and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Landon Cannon!
The defeated Alec Burns had this to say: 'I whooped his ass he caught me with some lucky shit '.
