PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between sergius Serra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Burgos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Serra comes to the cage accompanied by Drowning Pool- The Game. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gustavo Burgos was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, sergius Serra!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Burgos!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Burgos gets caught flat footed, as Serra shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Serra trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Serra is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Serra throws a big right hand that misses.
Serra slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Serra wants to pass the guard but Burgos is keeping the position.
Serra wants to control from the top but Burgos keeps moving.
Serra lands a couple of elbows.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Serra's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Serra throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Burgos is looking to stand up but Serra isn't so interested in that idea.

Serra thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Serra accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Serra slips nicely into half guard.
Serra is trying to control. Burgos wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Serra not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Serra slows the pace down in half guard.
Serra sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Burgos defending well though.
Serra thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Burgos's head.
Burgos is trying to stand up here but Serra is controlling him well.
Serra wants to free his trapped foot but Burgos is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Serra is looking to clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Burgos with a lazy takedown attempt

and Serra counters with a nice double leg into side control. Burgos won't be happy with that.
An elbow from Serra crashes against the mat.
Serra just content to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Serra looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Burgos is avoiding damage well.
Serra lands a few punches from side control.
Burgos wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Serra throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Serra lands an elbow.
Burgos is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Serra has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Burgos looks gassed!
Burgos takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Serra cracks Burgos with an elbow. That is naaassty.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Burgos takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Serra tries to advance to mount but Burgos denies him.

Serra working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Serra is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Burgos is trying to escape and Serra transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Burgos is forced to tap! Nice work there by Serra! Very nice indeed!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). sergius Serra!
