PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Rose (ranked 4818 p4p, 0 weight class) and Elvis Coretto (ranked 4779 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miguel Rose!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Elvis Coretto!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Alyssa Summers and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coretto fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Rose, pushing him back against the cage.
Rose with an attempt at a knee that misses.

Coretto turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Coretto manages to end up in side control.
Rose is looking for a sweep.
Rose wants to control but Coretto postures up.

Coretto stands up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Rose jumps guard.
Coretto throws a strike but Rose rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Rose wants to control from the top but Coretto keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coretto working a defensive guard here.
Coretto wants to sweep but no luck.
Rose slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Coretto looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rose wants to control from the top but Coretto keeps moving.
Coretto is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Rose wants to stand but Coretto is controlling his posture from full guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Nice takedown defense from Coretto. No joy for Rose on that attempt.

Coretto feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Rose uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Rose looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Coretto steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Rose.

Rose drives through and clinches with Coretto against the cage.

Rose wants to get back to striking at distance but Coretto won't allow it.
Rose has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Coretto avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Miguel Rose. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Rose's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Coretto changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rose looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Rose bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Rose is breathing heavily.

Coretto throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Rose tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Coretto is in Rose's guard.
Coretto is standing up over Rose. Rose looks to escape but Coretto dives into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!


Coretto has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Coretto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Horrible takedown attempt by Coretto or perhaps it was just good defense by Rose, which made it look bad.
Rose shoots in for a takedown but Coretto shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Rose moves into range and clinches up with Coretto.
Rose is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Rose avoiding damage as Coretto throws knees to the body.

Coretto decides to pull guard.
Rose looking to sit in guard and control but Coretto gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rose might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Coretto is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Miguel Rose will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Rose misses with a wild body shot.
Rose sets himself, and Coretto steps forward looking for the clinch! Rose avoids it this time.
Miguel Rose is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Rose darts in looking for a takedown but Coretto gets double underhooks and turns Rose into the cage.
Rose closes the distance and clinches up with Coretto, looking for a takedown. Rose pushes Coretto against the cage but Coretto circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Coretto is on top in guard.

Coretto drops back, looking for a kneebar! Rose looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Rose looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Rose!

Miguel Rose overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Coretto is trying to get back to his feet.

Coretto prevents Rose from moving into mount.
Rose working away.

Coretto wants to hold on but Rose pushes him away.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Coretto tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rose manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rose shoots in for a double leg but Coretto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Coretto working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rose's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Coretto shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Rose sprawls well. Rose wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Coretto gets slowly back to his feet.
Elvis Coretto has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Miguel Rose is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Coretto paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Miguel Rose.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Rose, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
