Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Xio Pio (ranked 2450 p4p, 278 weight class) and Southern Goon (ranked 2449 p4p, 277 weight class). Southern Goon acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Xio Pio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Southern Goon!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Columbo Gatti and Bruno Lombardi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pio fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Goon to the ground. Pio is now in Goon's guard.
Pio seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Goon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Goon really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Goon looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Pio will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pio decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Goon, up you get!
Goon stuns Pio with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Pio gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Goon connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Southern Goon is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Goon drops Pio with a beautiful combination! Pio stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Goon is looking for the KO!

Pio is rocked!

It looks like Xio Pio has been cut.
Pio slips a straight right by Goon.
Pio uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Goon.
Pio misses with a takedown
and Goon counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Goon scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Goon throws a looping overhand right but Pio ducks down to avoid it.
Nice takedown defense from Goon. No joy for Pio on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Xio Pio. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Goon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pio.

Pio scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Pio takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Pio really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Goon is trying to maintain the position but Pio is very close to passing his half guard.

Pio is looking for a kimura here.
Goon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Goon has one foot on Pio's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Pio will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

and Goon counters with a nice uppercut.

enabling Goon to counter with a crisp jab.

Goon drops Pio with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Pio looks back up at him and smiles so Goon waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
Oh Pio is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Goon weaves into range and cracks Pio right on the temple with a beautiful overhand right! Pio goes down! He's out cold! Wow, what a beautiful knockout! Goon is strutting round the canvas like a movie star as the camera bulbs flash frantically.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Southern Goon!
