The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matthews fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kimura connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Matthews cracks Kimura with a right hand to the side of the head.
Kimura displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Matthews throws out the jab.
Kimura changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Matthews misses the shot to the body.
Matthews lands with a shot to the body.
Kimura throws an overhand right that lands on Matthews's shoulder, as Matthews tries to avoid the shot.
Michael Matthews seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matthews is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kimura.
Kimura moves out of range as Matthews strikes.
Matthews rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Kimura counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Matthews makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

We've been told by Matthews's head coaches at The Kegerator - 650$ that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Matthews lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Matthews pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Kimura dips to his left and cracks Matthews with an uppercut!

It looks like Michael Matthews has been cut.
Matthews throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Matthews sets himself, and Kimura steps forward looking for the clinch! Matthews avoids it this time.
Matthews on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Matthews lands with a slapping head kick.
Matthews tries to bum rush Kimura with a series of wild strikes but Kimura uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Matthews takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Matthews is rocked!
Kimura avoids the head kick by Matthews.
Oh Matthews is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Matthews throws out a loose jab but Kimura uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kimura is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Matthews flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Matthews is out cold! Kimura holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!
