PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Doug Hoo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kjell Dillon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hoo comes to the cage accompanied by Middle Distance Runner by Sea Wolf. Dillon has chosen Pipes & Drums 1st Battalion Scots Guards as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kjell Dillon!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dillon looks for a takedown but Hoo sprawls well.
Dillon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Dillon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Dillon tries to pass to full mount but Hoo defends it.
Dillon is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Dillon thows a huge punch but Hoo dodges it nicely.
Dillon wants to control but Hoo is keeping him busy.
Dillon thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hoo's head.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hoo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Dillon shoots in and bounces Hoo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Hoo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Dillon with a flurry of punches that miss.
Dillon trying to control but Hoo is working from the bottom.

Hoo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Dillon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hoo is breathing heavily.
Dillon lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Hoo avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Dillon trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Hoo manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Dillon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Dillon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Dillon is trying to control the action in half guard but Hoo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

A close round but Kjell Dillon will probably get the nod.

Dillon is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dillon wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hoo is now in half guard.
Dillon has a hand on Hoo's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Hoo takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Dillon is wriggling around trying to escape.
Hoo avoids the attempt from Dillon to control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Dillon is trying to escape the mount.
Dillon wants to hold on but Hoo pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dillon sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Dillon gets full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dillon is keeping the position for now.
Dillon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Hoo wants to control from the top but Dillon keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dillon is on top in guard.
Dillon throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Dillon stands and throws Hoo's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Dillon trying to control the action but Hoo is working from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Dillon swings around for an armbar but Hoo sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dillon's guard.

Dillon has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hoo can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dillon has his foot on Hoo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hoo works his way back into a safe position though.

Dillon has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Hoo is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Dillon.
Kjell Dillon has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hoo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Dillon has escaped the position, nice work there.

Kjell Dillon showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Hoo with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Dillon gets back to half guard.
Dillon flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Hoo is thwarting Dillon's attempts to control the position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Dillon manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Dillon is looking for a triangle but Hoo pushes his legs off easily.

Dillon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kjell Dillon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Doug Hoo.
I think Dillon has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
