The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scott misses with a two punch combination.
Benavidez shoots in for a takedown but Scott shows good takedown defense.
Benavidez ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Benavidez shoots in looking for a takedown. Scott tries to sprawl out of it but Benavidez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Scott manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Benavidez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Scott throws an overhand right that lands on Benavidez's shoulder, as Benavidez tries to avoid the shot.
Benavidez misses with a takedown attempt - Scott sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Benavidez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Scott's guard.
Scott should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Scott wants to get back to his feet but Benavidez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Scott throws a leg kick which misses Benavidez's front leg but catches the back leg as Benavidez tries to avoid it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Scott paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Scott lands a nice leg kick that just misses Benavidez's sensitive parts.

Scott connects with a good right hand that stumbles Benavidez. Benavidez circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Scott throws a nice looking combination but Benavidez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Benavidez looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

This has been an exciting period of action!

The fight stays on the outside here - Scott looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Scott lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Christian Benavidez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
