Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gord Birds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rutten has chosen You Call My Name as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Birds is trying to improve his position.

Rutten just content to control the position.
Birds manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Rutten is taking a breather. Birds says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Rutten seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Birds does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Birds drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Birds tries to advance to mount but Rutten instead regains half guard.

Birds working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Birds is taking a breather. Rutten says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Birds is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Rutten is just riding it out for now. Birds eventually gives up the hold.
Birds is looking to advance position but Rutten won't allow it.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
Rutten moves into the clinch.
Birds tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rutten just stands there and leans against the cage.
Rutten is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Birds can't fight it off and eventually Rutten manages to take the fight to the floor. Birds looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Birds is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Rutten gets his way!

Bas Rutten comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rutten has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
