PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bryan Schaub (ranked 712 p4p, 104 weight class) and Hector Stefan (ranked 444 p4p, 66 weight class). Stefan has chosen Onward to Victory as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of New York, Bryan Schaub!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 17 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Hector Stefan!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schaub scores with a nice head shot.
Schaub swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Stefan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Stefan looks for the body kick but Schaub saw that one coming.
Stefan looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Stefan lands with a good body shot.
Stefan misses with a few strikes there.
Stefan swats away the attempt to clinch by Schaub.
Stefan is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
Schaub throws a left and a right that both miss
and Stefan counters with a stiff right hand.
Schaub closes the distance and clinches up with Stefan, looking for a takedown. Schaub pushes Stefan against the ropes but Stefan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schaub looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Schaub seems to be working for a kimura but Stefan defends the submission attempt.
Stefan is staying active underneath Schaub, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Stefan lands a left and a right that send Schaub crashing to the mat, dazed. Stefan thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Stefan is looking to escape.
Stefan is looking for a sweep. Schaub is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Schaub seems to have got his legs back now.
Schaub wants to pass to mount but Stefan is defending the position.
Schaub seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Stefan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Schaub is really struggling to control Stefan but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Schaub lands a nice short elbow.

Schaub is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stefan sees it coming and defends easily.

Stefan is concentrating on defense, preventing Schaub from advancing position.
Stefan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Schaub is working away from the top position though.

Schaub is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Stefan still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Stefan has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

Schaub is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Blood & Sand that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.

Bryan Schaub seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schaub throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Stefan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A combination from Schaub does no damage.
Stefan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Stefan.

Schaub throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Stefan was covering up waiting for the punch and Schaub finishes the takedown easily into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hector Stefan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Hector Stefan is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Schaub is being controlled here.
Stefan wants to stand but Schaub is controlling his arm.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Stefan prevents Schaub from escaping the position.

Hector Stefan seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Stefan lands with a hook. Schaub tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
