PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Billy Quinn (ranked 1969 p4p, 257 weight class) and Nuclear Penguin (ranked 1662 p4p, 220 weight class). Penguin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mardy Bum. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Billy Quinn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Nuclear Penguin!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Yukihiro Shimada and Yukihiro Yamamoto.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quinn throws a solid leg kick but Penguin takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Quinn.
Penguin has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Quinn thumps Penguin with a low kick.
Quinn looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A punch lands to the side of Penguin 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Quinn fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Quinn throws a shot from downtown. Penguin moves away and avoids it.
A jab from Penguin does it's job there.
Quinn throws a front kick aimed at Penguin's knee but Penguin avoids it well.
Quinn darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Billy Quinn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penguin checks the leg kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Quinn lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Penguin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Penguin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Penguin looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Quinn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penguin as he jumps to the side.
Quinn misses with a series of wild punches.

Quinn lands a nice shot that snaps Penguin's head back.

and Penguin counters with a leg kick.
Quinn's jab looks to have found its range, popping Penguin under the eye.
Quinn throws a lazy uppercut
and Penguin counters with an outside leg kick.

Quinn moves into the clinch successfully.

Penguin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Quinn tries to clinch up but Penguin circles away and keeps his distance.
Quinn swings for the body but Penguin moves out of range.
Penguin swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Penguin moves away from the strike by Quinn.
Quinn fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
It seemed like Penguin was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Quinn misses the shot to the body.
Quinn throws a body shot but no joy.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Penguin! But no joy.

Quinn scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

and Penguin counters with a stiff right hand.
Quinn comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Quinn lands with a cross.
Quinn misses with a jab, cross combination.

Penguin is looking to control Quinn's arms but Quinn gets an underhook and turns him. Now Penguin has his back to the cage.

Penguin has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Quinn pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Penguin drops his hands momentarily and Quinn takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Penguin looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.

Quinn moves into range and clinches up with Penguin.

Quinn has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Penguin regains guard immediately.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Penguin is on top in guard.

After winning the bout, Nuclear Penguin thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
