The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diaz fails to land the takedown.
Thompson half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Diaz looks for a takedown but Thompson sprawls well.

Diaz shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Thompson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Diaz tries to buck Thompson off but Thompson is having none of it.
Diaz is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Thompson prevents Diaz from standing back up.
Diaz moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Diaz pushes Thompson off and gets back to his feet.

Diaz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Thompson to the mat! Thompson manages to get full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Thompson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Diaz gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Diaz is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Diaz wants to get up but he can't break Thompson's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Thompson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
