Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Hyabusa (ranked 5133 p4p, 487 weight class) and Phil Phenoix (ranked 5117 p4p, 486 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Phil Phenoix!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Phenoix tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Hyabusa defends well and Phenoix ends up having to push Hyabusa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Phenoix shoots in for a takedown but Hyabusa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Phenoix closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hyabusa did well to prevent Phenoix getting side control.
Hyabusa is trying to control but can't.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Phenoix in particular looking to stall.
Phenoix lands with a punch from half guard.

Phenoix seems to be working for a kimura but Hyabusa defends the submission attempt.

Hyabusa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hyabusa tries to get out of the position.
Hyabusa is looking for a sweep. Phenoix is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Hyabusa wants to control the action here but instead Phenoix manages to pass to full mount!
Phenoix tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Hyabusa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Hyabusa is looking to get to half guard.
Hyabusa is squirming around, avoiding Phenoix's attempts to control the action.
Phenoix has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Hyabusa's face.

Phenoix looking to control but Hyabusa is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Hyabusa displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Phenoix throws out the jab.

Phenoix doesn't manage to clinch there - Hyabusa circles away.
Phenoix avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Phenoix avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Hyabusa misses with a hook. Phenoix ducked under it nicely.

Phenoix fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hyabusa to the ground. Phenoix is now in Hyabusa's guard.

Hyabusa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Hyabusa has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Phenoix is working away from the top position though.

Phenoix wants to pass to mount but Hyabusa is defending the position.
Hyabusa is refusing to be controlled, as Phenoix sits in half guard.

Phenoix misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Phenoix shoots for a takedown but Hyabusa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Phenoix avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The fight stays on the outside here - Phenoix looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Hyabusa swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hyabusa slaps away a takedown attempt from Phenoix, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Phenoix takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Phenoix changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hyabusa tries to avoid it but Phenoix manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hyabusa to the ground. Hyabusa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Phenoix bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Hyabusa throws a looping overhand right but Phenoix ducks down to avoid it.
Phenoix darts in looking for a takedown but Hyabusa gets double underhooks and turns Phenoix into the cage.

Ryu Hyabusa clearly takes that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hyabusa is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Phenoix dives in and grabs Hyabusa's left leg, looking for a takedown. Hyabusa pushes down on Phenoix's head and hops out.
Hyabusa looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
Hyabusa avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Phenoix throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hyabusa's waist but Hyabusa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Phenoix off to one side.

Phenoix looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Hyabusa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Phenoix will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
