The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McGruger throws a leg kick that misses.

McGruger darts in and clinches Carter up against the cage.
Carter gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Carter tries to work over McGruger's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

McGruger has Carter pressed against the cage, preventing Carter from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Carter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Carter is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. McGruger is defending well for now.

A left hand lands to the body for Carter.
Carter is pressed up against the cage. McGruger has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Carter down to the mat. Carter avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Carter will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
McGruger is looking to counter the offense by Carter and move into the clinch.
Carter displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as McGruger throws out the jab.
McGruger tries to clinch but Carter is having none of it.
Carter lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Carter clinches up with McGruger and pushes him back against the cage.
McGruger tries to score a body lock takedown but Carter shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Carter escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
McGruger steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Carter. That one must have hurt.

Carter gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Carter gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McGruger.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
McGruger has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Carter after a bit of a struggle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charlie Carter dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


McGruger takes a swing at Carter's ribcage but misses.
Carter misses with a looping right.
Carter punishes McGruger's body with a nice straight punch.
McGruger has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Carter closes the distance and clinches.
McGruger keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Carter's efforts to push away.

McGruger is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Carter can't fight it off and eventually McGruger manages to take the fight to the floor. Carter looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
McGruger stops Carter from standing up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McGruger throws a strike but Carter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

McGruger manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Carter manages to get himself to full guard.

McGruger is pushing down on Carter's leg trying to pass to half guard. Carter is fighting to maintain full guard but McGruger has managed to sneak the leg through.

Carter is trying to get back to full guard.

McGruger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Carter with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Carter tries to kick McGruger off but McGruger keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Still in half guard, McGruger seems content to control.
Carter on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Carter is looking to get back to is feet but McGruger passes into side control.
McGruger lands some shots froms side control.
McGruger scores with a couple of short elbows.
Carter is breathing heavily.

McGruger scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Carter to see if he's OK.
Carter is looking to reverse the position.

McGruger cracks Carter with an elbow. That is naaassty.

Carter takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Carter is still in real trouble! Can McGruger finish him?
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

McGruger looks up at the clock and then as Carter takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, McGruger smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Carter seems to have recovered his senses.
Carter takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

McGruger cracks Carter with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! McGruger immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Carter is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by McGruger!
