The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Taro Takaoka and Shirou Masuda.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nickal throws the left hand but Poli avoids the punch easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Poli misses its target.
Nickal jabs at Poli's body.
Nickal throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Nickal fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Poli ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Nickal connects with a body shot that sends Poli's belly button to the back.
Nickal punishes Poli's body with a nice straight punch.
Nickal gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Poli.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Poli throws a big shot that misses.
Nickal attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

and Poli counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
A punch lands to the side of Nickal 's head but he takes it in his stride.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Poli throws out a loose jab but Nickal uses good head movement to avoid it.
And Nickal tries to counter it with a takedown but Poli pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Poli connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Nickal's hands.

Poli takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Nickal tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Poli connects with the punch.
Poli looks to land a right hand but Nickal moved out of range.
Poli throws an overhand right that lands on Nickal's shoulder, as Nickal tries to avoid the shot.

Nickal shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Nickal showed some decent athleticism there.

Nickal thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Poli's head.

Nickal is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Poli sees it coming and defends easily.
Poli is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Blake Phoenix's Champion Factory, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Nickal seems to be working for a kimura but Poli defends the submission attempt.
Nickal is trying to control the action in half guard but Poli is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Nickal might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Poli haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Nickal in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Poli tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Nickal!
