Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jett Askren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steve Marino!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Askren closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Marino's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marino looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Askren's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Askren trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Askren slips nicely into half guard.
Marino really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Askren. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Askren is working for a kimura but Marino is defending it quite comfortably.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Askren tries to pass to full mount but Marino defends it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Askren seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Marino does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Askren is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Marino has managed to free his arm - good work.
Still in half guard, Askren seems content to control.
Askren tries to pass the half guard into mount. Marino knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Askren seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Marino is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Jett Askren!
