PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jayson Mccarty (ranked 4614 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eli Dodo (ranked 4505 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jayson Mccarty!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Eli Dodo!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Dodo moves into the clinch successfully.
Mccarty is looking for a takedown.
Mccarty tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Mccarty has Dodo pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Dodo manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jayson Mccarty. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mccarty gets through Dodo's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Mccarty tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dodo just stands there and leans against the cage.
Dodo is trying to push Mccarty away but Mccarty has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Mccarty tries to score a body lock takedown but Dodo shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Mccarty breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Dodo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mccarty pulls his head out easily.
Mccarty takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Dodo misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Mccarty looks to land a strike but Dodo avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Mccarty has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Dodo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mccarty could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Mccarty tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Mccarty is working an open guard so Dodo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Mccarty has managed to clinch.

Mccarty pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Dodo throws a one two combo.


It looks like Jayson Mccarty has been cut.

Mccarty is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Dodo's half guard.

Dodo tries to get to full guard but Mccarty has control of the leg.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Mccarty shoots in for a takedown but Dodo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Dodo drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Mccarty throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
Dodo tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Mccarty manages to work his way to half guard, despite Dodo's best efforts.
Dodo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mccarty with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Dodo tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mccarty controls his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Mccarty wants to improve his position but Dodo is controlling well.
Dodo is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Dodo decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Dodo closes the distance and clinches up with Mccarty, looking for a takedown. Dodo pushes Mccarty against the cage but Mccarty circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Mccarty fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Dodo, pushing him back against the cage.
Dodo tries to land knees in the clinch but Mccarty avoids the damage to the body.
Dodo is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mccarty pulls him back up using the underhooks.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mccarty throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dodo's waist but Dodo gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Mccarty off to one side.
Mccarty shoots in for a double leg but Dodo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Mccarty tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dodo swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dodo changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Dodo takes the fight into the clinch.
Mccarty just leaning against Dodo, taking a breather.
Dodo is defending well against a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jayson Mccarty. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Mccarty.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Dodo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Dodo lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Dodo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mccarty wants to get back to full guard.
Mccarty gets full guard.
Mccarty keeping moving, preventing Dodo from controlling successfully.
Mccarty looking for a sweep. Not yet Mccarty, not yet.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Dodo. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Dodo slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dodo scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mccarty controls Dodo momentarily but Dodo frees himself.

Dodo decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mccarty, up you get!

Dodo shoots in and gets a takedown into Mccarty's guard.
Dodo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Dodo wants to stand but Mccarty has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Dodo is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Mccarty looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Dodo lands a couple of elbows.
Dodo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mccarty wants to sweep here but Dodo controlling him for the moment.

Mccarty looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Dodo passes Mccarty's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Nice strikes from Dodo there.
Mccarty is not content to let Dodo control the position.
Mccarty might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mccarty is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Dodo stands up and beckons Mccarty to join him on the feet.
Dodo scores with a one two! Mccarty had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Mccarty has his takedown stuffed
and Dodo counters with a left and a right that stings Mccarty.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Dodo fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Mccarty to the ground. Dodo is now in Mccarty's guard.

Dodo stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Eli Dodo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Dodo moves into range and clinches up with Mccarty.

Mccarty manages to break the clinch.

Mccarty closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dodo throws Mccarty to one side and escapes!
Mccarty misses with a combination
and Dodo counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Eli Dodo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Dodo throws a one two combo.


Mccarty is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Dodo pushes Mccarty up against the cage in a clinch.
Oh Mccarty is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Dodo jumps guard and drags Mccarty to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Dodo pulls Mccarty in close to his closed guard and prevents Mccarty from doing any damage or advancing position.
Mccarty is standing over Dodo looking perhaps to pass into side control. Dodo throws an upkick that connects flush on the chin! Mccarty drops like a sack of potatoes! Dodo rolls him over and lands more strikes until the referee jumps in to end the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eli Dodo!
