The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
VanDam moves into the clinch.
Weenus blocks a body shot from VanDam.
VanDam has hold of one of Weenus's legs. Weenus is fighting the takedown attempt but VanDam gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Weenus wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and VanDam manages to pass to side control.

VanDam closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Weenus's guard.
VanDam stays in close to Weenus's body and controls the position.
VanDam has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

VanDam got a little sloppy there for a moment and Weenus has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, VanDam has managed to get both his arms back between Weenus's legs - danger averted.

Weenus has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. VanDam is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Weenus.

VanDam takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well VanDam has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
