Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bob Shamrock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Donald O Rourke!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Rourke shoots for a double leg takedown but Shamrock sprawls well. He's pushed O Rourke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Shamrock misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Shamrock throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent O Rourke stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Shamrock misses with a wild body shot.
O Rourke looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Good leg kick by Shamrock there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Shamrock misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from O Rourke.
O Rourke on the wrong end of a nice hook.
O Rourke blocks a jab.
Shamrock is breathing heavily.
Shamrock pulls out of a head kick attempt.
O Rourke uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Shamrock.
O Rourke is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.
O Rourke darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Shamrock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for O Rourke on the ground.
O Rourke is looking to advance position but Shamrock won't allow it.
Shamrock is trying to get back to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
O Rourke works his way into side control.
O Rourke moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Shamrock is trying to work for a sweep but O Rourke has mounted him!
O Rourke content just to control the position here.
O Rourke working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Shamrock turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips O Rourke off and cradles Shamrock's limp body as O Rourke celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Donald O Rourke!
After winning the bout, Donald O Rourke thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
