PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Coffey (ranked 4788 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janis Blums (ranked 7304 p4p, 0 weight class). Blums is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: BEAST by Rob Bailey & The Hustle Standard. On his way into the cage it seems that Ronnie Coffey has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ronnie Coffey seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ronnie Coffey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Janis Blums!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Coffey gets a clinch.

Blums pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Blums lands with a kick to the temple. Coffey shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Blums tries to clinch but Coffey is having none of it.
Blums throws a head kick but Coffey moves out of range.
Blums tries a head kick but it misses.
Coffey really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Coffey throws a solid leg kick but Blums takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Coffey.
Blums throws a lazy head kick

and Coffey counters by moving into the clinch.
Coffey is trying to pull guard but Blums has him pressed against the cage.

Coffey successfully pulls guard.
Blums is in close to Coffey's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Blums working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coffey is pulling down on Blums's head. It's preventing any offense from Blums, at least for the moment.
Coffey utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Blums trying to control the position from guard on top but Coffey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Coffey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Coffey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Blums can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Coffey has his hands on Blums's head, controlling the position.
Coffey throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Coffey has control of Blums's left arm, preventing Blums from doing any damage.
Blums would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Blums tries a head kick but it misses.
A little feinted left hand from Coffey on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Blums dives in and scores a takedown into Coffey's guard.
Blums must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Blums is looking to stand up but Coffey won't let him.
Coffey has Blums pulled in close to control his posture.

Blums decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Coffey, up you get!

Coffey bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Coffey tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Coffey is breathing heavily.

Coffey has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Coffey avoids the head kick by Blums.

Blums tries to keep at a distance but Coffey has taken the fight into the clinch.
Blums trying to control the position but instead, Coffey has worked for underhooks and has pushed Blums into the cage.
Blums pushes Coffey back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Coffey pulls Blums in close to prevent any damage.

Coffey is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Blums trying to control the position from guard on top but Coffey is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Coffey will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Coffey's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Blums is on top in guard.

Coffey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Janis Blums showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Blums pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Blums moves into range and clinches up with Coffey.

Blums has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Coffey regains guard immediately.

Blums avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Coffey tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Coffey has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Blums tries to bench press Coffey off him but Coffey keeps the position.
Coffey prevents Blums from escaping the position.
Blums sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Coffey looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Blums with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Coffey is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Coffey is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Blums doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Coffey.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Coffey is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Ronnie Coffey has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Janis Blums is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Blums is looking to control Coffey's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Blums avoid being mounted?

I would just about give that final round to Janis Blums.
I've got Blums winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
