PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Beltran (ranked 3220 p4p, 347 weight class) and Jason Mallone (ranked 3756 p4p, 388 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jason Mallone was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlos Beltran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jason Mallone!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beltran connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Beltran pushes Mallone up against the cage in a clinch.
Beltran is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Beltran tries for a takedown. No joy.

Beltran breaks from the clinch.

Beltran darts in and clinches Mallone up against the cage.

Beltran pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Donk. Beltran catches Mallone right on the button with a cross.

Beltran moves into range and clinches up with Mallone.
Beltran is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mallone pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Beltran wants a takedown but no success here.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Beltran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Beltran tries for a takedown but Mallone manages to get underhooks.
Beltran is looking to take this one to the mat.
The referee calls for Beltran to work.

Beltran breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Beltran moves into the clinch.

Beltran has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mallone regains guard immediately.
Mallone is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Beltran is controlling him.

Beltran stands and steps away. Mallone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Beltran closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mallone did well to prevent Beltran getting side control.

Beltran decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Beltran throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Beltran clinches up with Mallone and pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Beltran wants to take the fight to the mat but Mallone manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Mallone wants a takedown.

Beltran breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Beltran moves into the clinch successfully.
Mallone tries for a takedown. No joy.

Beltran tightens his grip and picks Mallone up, before dumping him to the ground. Mallone manages to land in guard.
Beltran trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Beltran stands and steps away. Mallone gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Beltran lands the left hand.
Mallone fails to land the takedown.
Beltran misses with a head kick.

Beltran closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Mallone keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Beltran is trying to control the action in half guard but Mallone is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Beltran stops Mallone from getting back to his feet.
Beltran content to control rather than advance.
Beltran not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Beltran decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Beltran gets a takedown into half guard.
Mallone scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Beltran manages to mount him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Beltran controlling his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos Beltran dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Mallone gets tackled into the cage by Beltran. Beltran maintains the clinch.

Beltran gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Beltran trying to control the position from guard on top but Mallone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Beltran content to stall in guard here.

Beltran stands up and waves to Mallone to follow him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
No luck for Beltran with that takedown attempt.

A big head kick from Beltran and Mallone is sent sprawling to the canvas!

Beltran in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Beltran trying to control the position from guard on top but Mallone is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Beltran decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Mallone, up you get!
Beltran is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mallone can do to turn this around?

Mallone takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

Beltran looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Beltran is looking to work some ground and pound but Mallone has wrist control.
Mallone wants to improve his position but instead Beltran has moved into half guard.
Beltran throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Beltran gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Beltran scores with a takedown into Mallone's guard.
Mallone is wriggling around but Beltran manages to pass to half guard.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Beltran here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Carlos Beltran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mallone is staying active underneath Beltran, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Beltran stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Beltran fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Beltran moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Beltran pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Mallone shoots in looking for a takedown. Beltran tries to sprawl out of it but Mallone keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Beltran manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Mallone counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Mallone stuffs the takedown attempt from Beltran. Beltran gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlos Beltran. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Beltran misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Beltran lands a head kick that stumbles Mallone and the fighters go to the mat.


Mallone is rocked!


It looks like Jason Mallone has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Beltran is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Mallone is still in real trouble! Can Beltran finish him?

Beltran stands up from Mallone's guard - Beltran perhaps looking for a knockout.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Jason Mallone's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Nice sprawl there from Beltran as Mallone shoots in.
Mallone seems to have recovered his senses.
Beltran fails in his attempt to clinch.
It seemed like Mallone was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Beltran cracks Mallone with a brutal left hook that knocks him out cold! This one is over in a flash! Game over!
