The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fortier fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Akodo.
Fortier throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Akodo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
We've been informed that Akodo has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Akodo uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Fortier has time to react.

Akodo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Fortier has him pressed against the cage.
Akodo swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Fortier lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Akodo lands with a right to the head.
Fortier misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Akodo lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Fortier backwards.

I was talking to Fortier's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Fortier creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Akodo wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Fortier lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

and Akodo counters with a nice uppercut.
Fortier fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Akodo checks it well.

Akodo drops Fortier with a beautiful combination! Fortier stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Akodo is looking for the KO!
