Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jerry Farrell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Owen Briggs!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some wild striking there from Briggs.
Briggs checks a low kick from Farrell.

Farrell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Briggs trying to hold on to Farrell's head to control him but Farrell postures up.
Briggs should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Farrell is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Briggs tries to roll over but Farrell keeps him under control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Briggs manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Farrell lands with an overhand left.

Briggs shoots in and gets a takedown into Farrell's guard.

Farrell has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Briggs is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Farrell is fighting off a takedown attempt but Briggs is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Farrell to the mat. Farrell regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Farrell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Briggs drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Farrell manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Briggs has Farrell in his guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Briggs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Farrell accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Briggs is pulling down on Farrell's head to control his posture.
Let's hope that Briggs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Farrell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Briggs seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Briggs shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Farrell tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Briggs manages to circle out of the way.

Briggs throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Farrell was covering up waiting for the punch and Briggs finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Briggs is looking to stand up but Farrell won't let him.

Briggs stands up and waves to Farrell to follow him.
Briggs stuffs the takedown.

Briggs shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Briggs wants to stand but Farrell has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Farrell moves out of range as Briggs throws a body kick.
Farrell wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Briggs closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Briggs is taking a breather. Farrell says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Briggs throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

and Farrell counters with a one-two to the body.
Briggs tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Farrell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Farrell seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Briggs closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Farrell did well to prevent Briggs getting side control.

Briggs decides to stand and escape the position.
Briggs wants to clinch

and Farrell counters with a single leg into guard. Briggs didn't expect that.

Briggs manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Briggs breaks the clinch.
Briggs jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Farrell goes for a double leg but Briggs avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Briggs continues to drive forward.

Briggs shoots in and bounces Farrell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Briggs is standing up over Farrell. Farrell looks to escape but Briggs dives into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Briggs controls the position.

Briggs stands up.
Briggs stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Briggs wants it to stay on the feet.

Briggs has closed the distance and engaged Farrell in a clinch.

Farrell breaks from the clinch.

Briggs rushes Farrell and presses him up against the cage.

Briggs has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Farrell regains guard immediately.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Owen Briggs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Farrell's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!

Briggs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Farrell drops back, looking for a kneebar! Briggs looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Briggs looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Briggs!

Briggs has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Farrell seems a little lost for a moment, as Briggs dominates the positioning.

Farrell stops Briggs from passing to mount.
Briggs trying to control the position but Farrell is working away.

Briggs tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Briggs lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Briggs is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Briggs is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Briggs postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Farrell to stand up.
Briggs throws a left and a right that both miss
and Farrell counters with a nice uppercut.

Briggs shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Farrell manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Briggs tries a head kick but it misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Farrell enables Briggs to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Farrell manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Briggs takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Briggs controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Farrell doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Briggs must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

I've got Briggs winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
