PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Stout (ranked 24818 p4p, 0 weight class) and Syech Poo (ranked 4783 p4p, 0 weight class). Syech Poo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Stephen Stout!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Syech Poo!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Daniel Bishop and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poo shoots in for a takedown but Stout shows good takedown defense.
Stout seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Poo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Stout is looking to counter the offense by Poo and move into the clinch.
Poo tries to bum rush Stout with a series of wild strikes but Stout uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Stout is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Poo.
Stout is looking to chop away at Poo's legs.
Poo keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Syech Poo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poo swings for the body but Stout moves out of range.
Poo shoots in looking for a takedown. Stout tries to sprawl out of it but Poo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Stout manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stout misses with a low kick as Poo jumps back.
As Stout backs off Poo throws a huge counter combo but Stout manages to avoid it all.
Stout scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Poo.

Stout wants the takedown. Poo is fighting it off but Stout persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Poo's guard against the cage.
Poo is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Stout dives into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Poo can do anything to dispel that myth.
Stout throws a strike aimed at the side of Poo's head but Poo avoids it well.
Stout is putting a hurting on Poo here, landing some big shots from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Poo managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Stout.

Stout misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Poo throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Poo tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Stout defends well and Poo ends up having to push Stout into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Stout shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stout showed some decent athleticism there.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Stout throws an elbow but Poo slips to the side and avoids it well.

Stout tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Poo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Stout wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Poo tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Stout paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Stout fires out a quick counter leg kick but Poo just manages to avoid it.
Poo shoots and misses

and Stout counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Stout.
Poo jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Stout walks away with a smile on his face. Poo gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Poo shoots in for a takedown but Stout shows good takedown defense.
Stephen Stout has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Syech Poo.
Poo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stout fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Poo wants to clinch
and Stout counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Poo is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Poo takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Poo closes the distance but Stout moves to the side

A momentary lapse in concentration from Poo enables Stout to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Poo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Poo is looking to stand back up but Stout counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Poo.

Stout has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Stout throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Stout is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Poo wants to get back to full guard.
Stout throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Poo is trying to escape back to his feet but Stout uses the scramble to pass into side control.

Stout is trying to get an arm triangle but Poo is defending well.
You can see the frustration on Poo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Stout will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Stout is putting a hurting on Poo here, landing some big shots from side control.
Stout throws a strike aimed at the side of Poo's head but Poo avoids it well.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Poo strikes from the bottom but Stout takes advantage and advances to full mount!
Stephen Stout overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Poo preventing the sweep.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Stout manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Stout jumps guard and drags Poo to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Stout stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Stout wants it to stay on the feet.
